What is going on in that Outdoor Life story is that black bears have very poor vision but are used to seeing other bears up trees. And male black bears eat little black bears which is why momma bear got so bent out of shape. She initially mistook the hunter for a male bear because she could not smell him and got so enraged she forgot about the sound of his voice. This kind of thing happens more often to people sitting in trees than to people sitting on the ground. The bears do not expect to see a man in a tree but they do expect to see other bears in a tree. Sometimes they come up the tree which is a problem for a bow hunter VBR, Ted Gorsline

This guy sounds like a moron. Sure a bear charge will cause all kinds of involentary bodily reactions, but this guy is up a tree. Talking about the bear charging to with in 5 yards, the bear still has to climb a tree to get him. Yes I know bears can climb very well, but the hunter is armed and has the high ground. What does wrapping the rifle sling around his neck do, nothing. He's not going after a wounded leopard. a black bear will kill with crushing blows with its paws and ripe into the soft belly, or try crushing the skull with its jaws. Lastly stay put in the tree your in very little danger there, you moron. Besides when you don't show up at camp the outfitter will show up with help figureing there's a problem. The thing I dislike most is the whole tone of writting the story for sensatinalism with nothing constructive to advise anyone caught in similar sitution. Pure BS writting. Perception is reality regardless the truth! Stupid people should not breed DRSS NRA Life Member Owner of USOC Adventure TV
