So I am in discussion with one outfitter who I connected with on here but I thought I would get some more info to pick though. My father and I are looking for a Black bear hunt in May of 2006, we are looking to book this summer by either july or august of 2005 for next spring. We would like between a 5-7 day hunt for black bears and some fishing, we would like this to take place in the following areas, Manitoba, NWT or Nunavut. Things were looking for in the hunt would include cabins and or lodges for staying (not really looking to spike camp this or bring camping gear) and were looking for a 2 bear option per hunter, were looking in the price range between 3,400-4,100 USD for the trip alone per hunter. We have the guns but I am curious about Canadian law. I have fished several times in Manitoba and Nunavut at Nueltin lake and at Hatchet lake but never hunted in Canada. Does Canada allow Semi Auto rifles such as the new Benelli? We would like some material (videos or pamphlets) Fishing were looking for, but its not imperative would be walleye, pike or grayling (spelling might be incorrect on the grays). Next question would be if a third hunter came who just wanted to fish, what would the price be for just a 5-7 day fishing package for him. Thanks for any or all info yall can provide. I can provide an address to send info if need be or email me with info at jonesja@mac.com thanks guys for any info you can provide!

Cold, Take a look at www.larssonslodge.com I hunted there last year and I am going back this year. The people I hunted with have hunted there 2 years in a row and are also going back. It is only a one bear area, but you stay in cabins right on the lake. a boat and motor is included with your hunt. I caught some nice fish and took a 383 lb black bear. Getting your rifles into Canada is not a problem. I also do an Idaho bear hunt with www.elkcityadventures.com I have hunted with them twice in the fall and taken one bear each time. It is a two bear area. I am hunting with them this June, and with Larssons this Aug. I like to hunt bears. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

Most if not all of Manitoba is a one bear zone.If you really want a two bear hunt for a reasonable price try Alberta.

If you are looking for two bears each and want to go to Canada you will need to book Alberta. I have a very good outfitter there and a very remote northern Manitoba option as well, but one bear. Excellent fishing at the Manitoba place, trophy pike and 'eyes. Drop me a line with your specifics and I will get you in contact with my people. aspenhill@triton.net ~Ann

My friends and I have been hunting in Alberta the last three years...after big Whitetails/Mule Deer. If my memory is correct there are some restrictions on bringing firearms into Canada. Some types require special permit..certain overall length of firearm, handguns, etc...not sure about semi-autos... Unfortunately I do not have that info in front of me...but you should be able to do a search on line (I think the Canadian govt provides web site with such info..and you can actually obtain a temp. gun registration online..which you need to hunt up there) and get some info...certainly your potential Outfitter should be able to provide information.

Alberta allows 2 bears and if you hunt the Peace Region, you could very well find yourself a colour phase bear with lots coming out of here in the blonde/red or cinn colours. Try www.birchcreekhunts.com out of Peace River and talk to Mike. Greg

Seldom do the words trophy and comfortable go together in the same sentence when talking hunting. Alberta is the place for trophies and two bears. I don't know an outfitter with a cozy lodge and big bear.

well thats fine, I have went on my fair share of shit hunts where we were cold and wet for days on end, both here and abroad, but since both my father and uncle are getting way up in the age range, I thought I would at least see if there was some place out there I hadnt heard of...Omega, your advise while it might be pertinant to or for you, really was worthless for me, just because you dont know of any place where those two things meet, doesnt mean there isnt one...

BC has a 2 bear limit, there ar eplenty of bears, and you can easily have nicer accomodations than a tent for a spring bear hunt. Just about any outfitter in BC does spring bears, PM me if you like, as I know one outfitter that usually has decent bears and decent rates. 375 Ruger- The NEW KING of the .375's!!

Well Cold if you are too damn stupid to read between the lines then I'll spell it out. Many places will promise you exactley what you want in order to get you there. I was simply giving you a gentle heads up to watch what you are getting into. But as you pointed out you weren't worth me wasting my time over.

You can use a 303 British if you want, worked fine for me, just as good as the 7 mm. You're only shooting 20 or 30 yards at a 300 lb animal. the chef

cold, I used one round each with a 30.06 and Remington 180gr Core-Lokt to take both those bears. A 375 would do the trick as well. Scott Taylor has great place and you would not be disapointed. Taking a wolf is a real posibility up there too. I'm considering going back next spring to see if I can find a color phase.

I hunted with Ross Sawyer and Lyle McMillan. They treated me right and I got a 6.5-foot cinnamin bear. It is a one-bear hunt near Lynn Lake, Manitoba. It is at the end of the road north in Manitoba - a heck of a drive, but worth it to me. http://www.manitobabearhunts.ca/
