I'd love to take my dad and son on a caribou hunting trip, but I can't afford the hunts advertised on the web. Can one hunt caribou anywhere in Canada without a guide. I appreciate the info.

I may be wrong on this, but I think All Non-Canadians have to employ a guide for hunting. I believe a Non-Canadian can fish within so many meters/feet/yards of a highway without employing a guide. Maybe someone else will have better information.

You can hunt Caribou in Alaska with out a guide.

We usually drive up from Michigan every year for caribou. The drive is about a 27 hour drive. We hunt with an outfitter up in northern Quebec. They provide the food and lodging. You drive and find the caribou. Sometimes the Boos are in in mass,sometimes not. You buy the liscense in camp, good for 2 Boos. A 3 day, 4 night hunt costs $1,200 per person. It is alot of fun, the best time is usually the second hunt. Nov.19 thru Nov.22 The longer you wait, the more time they have to drop their antlers. If you need more info. pm me. Jeff

In 2004, four of us drove from Kansas to hunt in Northern Quebec with a do-it-yourself outfit down the road from the Mirage. We brought our own food, they provided the cabins and we hunted on our own. It was definitely worth the time.

The four of us shot 2 Caribou per person in about 8 hours of hunting time. Sadly, it was 40 hours drive time, one way.

If I was to do it again, I would stay at the definitly stay at the Mirage.
