... "Sgt. Preston of the Yukon" when they were a kid in the 1950s?
Boy, I sure did.

I did; I loved that show.

eddiel4Not only Sgt. Preston but Ramar of the Jungle as well (or was it Ramah). I can still remember him carrying the Mannlicher stocked bolt rifle!

Grizzly AdamsRemember it vaguely, but betting Preston didn't make it much further north than Hollywwod.

AnotherAZWriterMy dad was a kid in the 50s but I remember watching reruns of it in the 80s when I was stationed at Ft Riley. I loved that show. From there I went to Alaska and lived the dream...at least one version of it.
You can see a lot of them on YouTube; here is one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39od9x9FwmgThis show was an American fantasy that had little to do with Canadian life. My late uncle was an RCMP officer starting about 1950, my late mother was a senior civilian member and both my late dad and I worked part time for the force.
The real Canadian RCMP depiction was in the "Dale of the Mounted" series of novels in the '50s and several friends of mine joined as a result of these. Due to one, I still yearn to see The Bonnet Plume River, before I get much older.........

Bill/OregonSNAP, I had not heard of the Bonnet Plume, and then found these two Youtubes. Wonderfully, honestly filmed adventures of some old guys on a beautiful river in the Yukon:

Watched the you tubes having grown up spending more time in a canoe then on a bicycle. Makes me wonder how much experience they had canoeing.
They didn't seem to be able to read the water very well.

Bill/OregonP.D.: I am curious, too, about their pre-trip training regimen and river experience. Still got a kick out it though!

Bill, how about Sky King (with Penny his daughter and the Song Bird, his plane), Johnny Yuma, Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom? How about the magnificent nature photography of Marty Stouffer?

Bill/OregonJon, all familiar memories. Seems like "Fury, the story of a horse, and the boy who loved him," with Peter Graves came on right after Sky King. "From out of the western skies..."

Grizzly AdamsMutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom?
Marlin Perkins and that show were discredited for staging most of what you saw there, seems to me.
