I recall reading somewhere that importing Marlin Guide Guns (198 1/2" bbls) wasn't legal as the minimum barrel length is 20". Is this correct? DB Bill aka Bill George

No, those sell like beer and hotdogs at a baseball game here, I have an original Marlin 1994CS, '70s vintage and a Mini-14 with 18.5" tubes and the Ruger Frontier with a 16.5" bbl. is also sold here. You CANNOT bring a HANDGUN into Canada, NO EXCEPTIONS and "assault rifles" such as AR-15s,etc. are "restricted" and thus also not acceptable. Be advised, that if caught in breach of Canadian firearms laws here, you WILL lose your guns, PERMANENTLY and MAY be a "guest" of Her Majesty in one of our lovely prisons, full of dopers, homos and other assorted vermin. Call 1-800-731-4000 for the Canadian Firearms Center to get any gun/legal advise on entering Canada with a firearm. It is FAR easier to a US citizen to do this, than it is for me to bring my gun into the U.S.A.

Last time I checked (about 4 years ago) it was 18" minimum. Do a google and you'll find the canadian site. NRA Endowment Member

Actually, I believe that the minimum barrel length for a centrefire is 18.5 inches unless it came with a shorter barrel direct from the factory. Despite that, the total overall length of the gun still has to be over 26 inches. Then, you get into the "evil black guns" designation...

Yes I think its 18.5 if you are modifying it. If your bolt gun comes with a 22" bbl then you can bob it to 18.5" and be safe. If it was from the factory with a shorter tube then you can have a 12" or 14" as long as the gun meets the overall length requirements. Which as stated is 26". This will depend on action style. You can get a pump shotgun up here with a 8" bbl. Just meets legal. Strange laws. WOODY Everyone is allowed an opinion, even if its wrong.

Dominion Arms is the make. Made by Norinco for Canada Ammo in BC. They make a really cool Rem 870 clone with 12.5" bbl as well. www.canadaammo.com
