Ask HunterJim on this forum, he has been researching this for a while.

Birch Creek and Bear Paw Outfitters both have good recommendations.

Steve Taylor at Bear Paw is booked far ahead though.

Jim,

If what I hear about the area I'll be in November is true you should forget about the Peace. Are you collecting priorities in AB?

What do you mean by that-forget about the Peace area?

Plus HunterJim has to hunt with an Outfitter and doesnt need to apply for the draws. An alien-non resident cannot apply for the draws to hunt any animals under the draw system - The hunter has to go thru an Outfitter.

I second Scott Taylor of Bearpaw Outfitters but you'll have to get on his cancellation list unless you want to bok a few years in advance. I hunted black bear with him a few years ago and took a couple real monsters.

I heard of a man that is an outfitter out of Grimshaw that has the first name of Merle but don't know his last name. Is there anyone from around there that might know who he'd be? I tried a web search and came up empty. I heard he was pretty good and would like to get in touch. I'll prolly call the chamber, as well. Does the guide association give out lists of outfitters in the AO?

BigJohn let me know if you find the outfiter.

BearPaw is booked untill 2010 and went to $8500 . Little out of this working mans reach for mule deer. I can go to Mexico for less.
Even Africa for cape Buffalo.

Have I got my rules mixed up? Couldn't a non-resident alien WIN card holder apply for draws and hunt with me on the Hunter Host deal?

From the regulation booklet:

"Only residents and, to a lesser extent, non-residents (Canadian) are eligible to apply in these draws."

I was wrong, my apologies.

Oh, not to worry!! I just saw some pics of great mule deer taken in that general area. HunterJim and I have been toying with the idea of doing a Hunter Host thing, and I figured (without having been there) that maybe the area I'll be hunting this fall is a bit easier on his aging joints... but I read the rules wrong. He can't hunt there.

Absolutely nothing to worry about in terms of trophy quality in the Peace area - au contraire!

Sorry if I caused confusion...

Frans,

I gave my "aging joints" a good workout in Colorado last month, we camped at 8,400'. Mostly I was hunting deer between 7,000 and 7,500', but I did climb up to 9,000' to look around.

See you in Reno.

HunterJim! Big Grin

I feared you might catch that phrase about the joints. Razzer

If anybody's joints are creaky it's mine...

Let me buy you some 'joint medicine' in Reno to make up for my inappropriate comments...
