Gidday Everyone,

Just seeking advice from here on the following.
I'm traveling from Australia to Canada in Sept. to go hunting and have to transit through Honolulu with my rifle. I have rang the ATF twice in the USA and twice they've told me that there is no written permit that I can (or have to) obtain. Just make sure I have my hunt contract from Canada and my itinerary for travel with me and I'll be fine Roll Eyes
I also rang US customs and they said if that's what the ATF said, then that's what I need to do.

Any advice/imput from members here would be appreciated though probably confuse me more Confused Roll Eyes

Cheers,
Mark.

Mark,

I know at one stage after 9/11, it was virtually impossible for a non American to transit through the US with a firearm..One or two of the Canadian posters here had major problems try to transit the US to get to Africa for instances..

Personally, I would be very wary of the verbal advice you have been given and get something more concrete in writing, preferably from either ATF or US Customs in Honolulu...

Regards,

Pete

I would be very careful about what advice you take in regards to importing a firearm into the US. The following application form and instructions does not seem to make exceptions for bringing a firearm into the US in transit to another country.

Canadians travelling to other parts of the world go to great lengths to avoid passage throught the US due to difficulty in bringing firearms into the US, even in transit. If the ATF / US Customs tells you otherwise, get it in writing with reference to the applicable statute. Perhaps there are other Canadians reading this who have had a recent experience NOT requiring a Form 6 to transit the US enroute to elsewhere. If so, I would like to hear about it.

For entry to Canada with a firearm, go here for the relevant procedure.
