I am going on a Bear hunt in Saskatchewan next May and would like to take a Mossberg 12 ga. with an 18.5 barrel and a pistol grip with me. Anyone know if this is legal or not. I have went on the Canadian Firearm website but am still a little confused. Thanks

Shouldn't be a problem, just add it to your firearms sheet before entering Canada.

Barrel of 18.5in is just on the legal limit for Canada, but you should be OK. Try this link:

When buying a pistol grip shotgun in any local gun shop in the US, the shotgun is somewhat treated as a pistol. You must be 21 to buy, and live in the state of the purchase. These two rules are the same as if you were buying a hadgun. On the 4473 you fill out when purchasing a gun, the dealer has a choice to mark either long gun, handgun, or other. Pistol grip shotguns fall as other on the forms.
This may be something you want to check into.

Good luck and enjoy Canada

Medved is correct here and I would suggest calling the Canadian Firearms office, operated by the RCMP at 1-800-731-4000 and asking them to mail you the correct regulations. Their should not be any major issue with bringing a pistol gripped shottie into Canuckistan and as long as it meets the legal criteria, you have no problem.

We have excessively strict gun laws here as we have had since the 1930's, however, it is FAR easier for an American to bring a gun into Canada, than for one of us to bring one into the USA.

Do call the "Queen's Cowboys" as you do NOT want to have them catch you with an illegal gun in this country...ain't statist "democracy" wunnerful?
