Hi every one i am new at all this so please help me if you can.I am about to load the Barnes triple shock X bullets for moose and Grizzly bear,i am shooting a tikka 30/06,What do you think of a 180 grain or 250 grain, hope to never run in to that damn bear, but there is a good chance because i hunt in his backyard. so please tell me all you can about Barnes and the Gun i have Thank you all Tikkawebb
I think you will do just fine with a 180gr or even a 165gr X bullet in your gun.
X bullets penetrate VERY well...We killed a grizzly this year, my buddy put a 160gr X bullet from a 7RM right through both shoulders, leavign a HUGE wound..We followed up with a shot or two, but it was NOT necessary!!!
Tikkas are very good guns for the price..They are better than many that are an extra $300!

Another vote for the Tikka '06 combination - got a s/s version that seems ideal for hunting the damper bits of the world! Really interested in the new Hornady Interbond bullet in 165gn - I fancy that if it shoots and performs as well as rumour has it - I could just have the one load Ive been searching for!

That Interbond is a funny bullet, in my personal experience. It shot decently, but not exceptionally in the lesser accurate 30-06 I own. But in my true tack-driver, I could not get it to group at all. Go figure! Bit of a disappointment, to say the least. Now that 200 Accubond, that's a different story. Both rifles shoot it under 1", and that will do....now waiting for the 165 Accubond. Regards, Eagleye.
The 165 interbonds shoot very well out of my 06 and 300H&H. The 200 Accubond shoots well out of my 06 but shoots terribly out of the H&H which is the gun I wanted to use them in. Haven't tried the triple shocks yet.

The only issue that I would have on the interbond/accubonds, is the animals you are hunting. Moose are especially tenacious if punch through the lungs, not nearly as tough as an elk. Yet, because of their size, GREAT penitration may be required at some angels.
Accubond, Scirroco, interbond, may not be up to the challenge, at some angles. They are design to mushroom quite large, giving a big hole, but less penitration. Especially in something lighter than 180 grains. Additionally,on Grizzly, I would definately discourage 165 when I could use 180s.
It isn't like you are going to need .5 or even 1 MOA for either of these animals. Nor are you going to be shooting at ranges where the 165s flatter trajectory means diddly! A 180 Barnes X will shoot through a moose lengthwise including any bones encountered along the way because of odd angles. I've done it.

Groove Bullets make a product that looks a lot like the Barnes...in fact I think they were first. North Fork also make a grooved bullet, but it has a bonded lead core. In the same bullet weight you get a shorter shanked bullet.
