I'm looking at all options for black bears in Alaska, and Canada, still.

I have several outfitters logged on my computer but still searching.

Does anyone have any recommendations for B.C. boat hunts for black bears? I would prefer an outfitter that is ok with filling 2 tags.

I dont know for BC outfitters, but when I was working on the Alaska HWY realignments, we seen may black bears and grizzly. I would say any outfitter that works along the Liard River in northen BC would be good.

I have met Roy P a few times and he seems alright to me. I live about 30 mins south of him. I hunt in his area all the time and I'll tell you that there are a lot of bears around here.

Roy's area has some really big bodied bears
My best a real 7'4" bruiser.I know of several others of that size taken with Roy. If your looking for skull size I know of only a few in the last 20 yrs over 21". If your looking for record book skull size try theSan Carlos Indian reservation in AZ. According to the record books Gila Co. Az is the #1 place for record book black bears in the west. But they have very short, and very thin hair. Not the best rugs or mounts. San Carlos spring season is april 8-23. The fall hunt in sept is wild you find the bears in the low desert eating prickly pear apples its very hot and you can only hunt for a few hours after daylight and maybe one hour befor dark. A tough hunt you'll see bears but the trick is to get to them before it gets dark or to hot.
Roy's hunt is a lot more plesant with better hides. Roy's # 250 965-7788

on San Carlos try

Doc, might I suggest that you drop in to www.huntingbc.ca and have a look at some of the newer Black Bear pics therein? We have a lot of knowledgeable and helpful people there who would be more than willing to offer their advice. derf

Hey guys, thanks for all the help, this is good stuff. I've always heard of the bears in AZ, I used to live in Tucson.

I have also talked with Roy P. last year. He is on my list of potentials.

Thanks again everyone.
