Don BSheep Success
After nine days of hard hunting with Stan Stevens outfit, I finally pulled the trigger on this 36" ram. I passed on a couple of rams the guide thought might go 38" early in the hunt. Then there was a long, dry "lambs and ewe's spell". At 9pm on day nine, I ran into three rams and picked the biggest. I varied through exhaustion, and life threatening exhilaration on some of the climbs I made. I definitely pushed my envelope, probably more than what was smart, but I'm back in one piece.
More to come,
Don

JetboaterCongrat's on a nice trophy. Having a tough hunt just leaves better memories, makes it all worth the extra hardships.

Frans DiepstratenVery nice, well done!
I'm not good at passing up trophies, but the ones you get afterwards seem so much more valuable for it!

buffybrDon,
Congratulations on a great ram.
I loved every second that I was in the MacKenzies in '99 when I hunted sheep there with Gana River Outfitters.

Don BI blissfully report also, that I had NO nasty surprises getting into or out of Canada. I found customs to be unusually efficient and curteous both ways. They knew exactly how to procede, and I was very impressed.

Bill CCongrat's DonB! I did a horse-assisted hunt last year w/Stan Simpson, and am wanting to do a full backpack hunt next, which is as I understand what Stevens offers exclusively. I'm anxious to hear how you got into the area, how mobile you were once there, how much ground you covered, etc. I'll revisit your posts over on Campfire's Backpack Hunting forum...
And good on you for holding out, and why not when in awesome sheep country like in the NWT. Well done!

John FordDon, I think I talked to you at North-Wright when you came in. I was on my way to Gana River and asked you guys about sheep and caribou and it seemed you said after 9 days of sheep hunting you were not interested in caribou. Was that you?
