Get yourself into good bear habitat, I don't think specifically where matters too much. Try and place the bait near a blowdown, large rock etc. to force the bear into a certain spot where you want. Make sure it's a spot where he can't hide behind something while at the bait. Also be aware of wind direction and thermals etc. Donuts work well, used deep fry grease, molasses etc. Use enough bait to entice him in then the molasses or peanut butter to keep him there. Spread it all over the trees etc. Don't feed him too much because he might hit the bait and not come back for a day or more. Don't shoot the first little guy that comes in....unless you have 2 tags. If you have the 2 tags fill one first to make sure you have one then wait for the big guy. Then sit and wait. I'd get on stand around 3 in the afternoon. the chef

Hello; Pick a place where the bear can have cover while he aproaches the bait. I would think in N. Sask. like N. Ab., the chances are pretty good you will have more than one bear hitting your bait. I use a 45 Gal. drum with a removable lid and an about 8" hole near the bottom. This is tied to a tree with a steel cable and clamp, so they can't drag it off into the woods and keeps the feathered scavengers off. Bait consists of meat scraps from the local abbatoir. I've also gotten cooking oil from restaurants and used it to make trails to the bait. Our local feed plant was getting fish oil from the Gulf of Mexico and I was hoping to try mixing that with oats, but their source dried up and I never got a chance to try it. Be prepared to refill your barrel a few times, before you get lucky. Thanks for the tips, I got a few ideas for some good locations, i've heard that oats mixed with old deep frier greese and donuts work well, may try that next spring.
