I am taking my son and father on a Vancouver Island black bear hunt out of Port Alberni. We are flying into Vancouver on Friday afternoon, but the hunt starts on Sunday evening. So we have a couple days to kill. I was planning on renting a car and taking the ferry over to the island on Friday. Would anyone have advice on where to stay?? or things to do?? Thanks!! TBD Go Duke!!

So, Saturday only. Is it a bow hunt? Ferry to Nanaimo. Go to Cabela's, fellas there should have an inkling of outdoorsy stuff to do.

Personally I would just get on the ferry and go to the island as soon as possible, then head for Pt. Albert. Along the way stop and check out Cathedral Grove, which is a park with some huge old growth forest. Really a nice place. Then go to Port Alberni and look around. Check out the town and have a good meal at one of the restaurants. You do not really have a lot of time to kill and you can easily do it that way. ______________________________________________ The power of accurate observation is frequently called cynicism by those who are bereft of that gift.

Victoria is a very charming city. Stay at the Empress Hotel and have high tea. Then stroll the harbor and have dinner at one of the Pubs in the down town area. For a North American city, and particularly west coast, it has a very European feel in my opinion. The next day head north and stay in one of the towns suggested by other posters. I have only anchored out at Nanaimo but it was beautiful. Have a great trip!

How was the trip? How did the hunt go? I love that area. Would live there permanently if I could.
