gunsmiths round Calgary?

Hi all,

I've got a simple job for a gun smith, yet the guy I talked to at Wholesale Sports in Calgary made it into a BIG JOB.

I have a Cooey single shot, nicely worked over by a friend, tefloned it, made an oiled shaft out of a beaten up laquered one, etc. It looks really good. Another friend sent me a Weaver B4 scope with an original tip-off/on mounting "sleeve" on it...this mount requires some grooves to grab onto.

Brownels (I think that is the name) sells a simple mount for that, all it takes is drilling, tapping, screwing. Why Wholesale Sport wouldn't do this little job is beyond me, probably not enough profit in it for them. They suggested grinding grooves into the action, which is not required in my and others' opinions.

They gave me a phone number of a gunsmith, but he never returns my calls....so...anybody know of a competent fellow around Calgary who could do such a job?

The gophers are waking up, and I'd planned this year to be the year that my kids make their first kill, if they want to.

Come to think of it, I might have asked this question before....sorry if I have, I just can not imagine there not being a competent, easy-to-talk to gunsmither in an area with so much spectacular hunting and so many people...

Anybody feeling the bear jitters yet?

Thanks,

Frans

Ron smith by wimborne would probably do it, Grizzly Adams posted his number in the "Bevan King #" thread. But I'd try the riflemans shoppe to save a trip. His number is 280-6773.

It's a fairly simple matter of tapping holes in the action and using a type of bar stock that will accept the tip-off type rings. Can't help with the smiths around Calgary, though.

You're right with the approach...I've sourced the parts...all I need now is somebody to drill a few holes in straight. I'll make a few calls to the numbers mentioned above.

Thanks guys

I doubt that anyone in wholesale sports could drill and tap it even if they did have the equipment. They have enough trouble mounting a scope to a rifle that's already drilled.

That sounds like a Do-it-yourself< !--color--> project! LoL

Just set up the old Black & Decker Workmate, buy a quality drill press from Canadian tire and a set of Wallmart drill bits and you are good to go! LoL Don't worry about taps, just drill the holes over-size and glue the screws in place!

Well that is the approach my former gunsmith used!
