You make a good case for a lightweight rifle, I must have been forgetting, that I probably won't have my benchrest and sandbags with me if I'm ever lucky enough to get a good opportunity at a ram. After all the walking I'll likely have to do first, I probably wouldn't even be steady enough to make an attempt at a ram in another postal code anyways. That said, "there really isn't any need for the flattest shootin' rifle available if I must be penalized with an extra pound of weight."

From what I can see the only truly lightweight production super mag. type rifles are the Weatherby Ultralight at around 2000.00 Cnd. and the Lazzeroni at 5000.00 US.

Somewhat out of the price range, do you suppose a Tikka T3 in wood/blue in .270 WSM or 7mm Rem. would be a good choice?

Thanks for the replies Oscar and Stubblejumper,

Gord M

Tikka T3 Lite/stainless in 270WSM only weighs 6 3/8lbs and thats with a 24.5" barrel. Ecellent choice for a light weight, long range, not so hard kicking rifle/calibre combo.

I myself am buying one in 25 06 or 270WSM.

The standard 25 06 Lite/stainless weighs only 6 3/16lbs with a 22.5" barrel. Not as much range though.

Great choice for a accurate light weight rifle for under $800.
