Not my question, but another member asked this in the handgun hunting forum, and I was curious as well, and thought someone here might know. The gun is a 1977 Blackhawk, and the seller told him it was a "transition gun", but didn't know what that meant. Any takers?

I received a response from Ruger, the say it means that the gun is a "New Model" and not the "old model" that needed the safety upgrade.

And I was all excited thinking I had gotten a steal on a rare gun.

I feel a bit let down for you RJ. I guess it's just a case of a ten dollar handle for a five cent word. I was suspicious since '77 is five years after the "transition" from Old model to New model, but I did find several references to the phrase online, just no explanations as to its meaning. Sorry.

When I had a question like this about Rugers, I emailed Bill Hamm, an advanced Ruger collector and super nice man. He took the time to answer my question and then explain the answer. You may be able to reach him through the Gunblast website:

Scroll down to his name and photo and click on the email link.
