Took my chronograph to the range today. 8.8 grains of VihtaVuori N340, 155 grain Speer Gold Dot bullet in Starline 400 CorBon brass, averages 1310 fps. This is a nice load in a 1911 and all you have to buy is a barrel, a little stronger recoil spring and a barrel bushing. Who needs a .357 Magnum? _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

Went back to the range to try another powder with the 155 grain Gold Dot bullet in the 400 CorBon. This time I tried the French Vectan powder SP2. Using 13 grains of SP2 gives me 1400 - 1450 fps. Probably a max load but no signs of overpressure, but dang that's a handful in a 1911. Stick that in your computer and figure out the Power Factor or any other stopping power formula you want. You'll have a hard time beating it. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.
