I have a P89 I bought new. I have fired it about 3,000 times. The guide rod is boogered up, as you see in the picture below. What is causing this? How can I remedy the situation? How can I keep it from happening again?

Why not just send it back to Ruger? They should fix it free. I have had excellent experience with their customer service.

PETER SAID IT!!! Send it back to ruger. I had an old Blackhawk that would misfire. I sent it back, and in a few weeks I got it back like new with a little bag of old parts. NO CHARGE!!!

Actually, the gun belongs to a friend and naturalized US citizen (very proud and very conservative) from the Philippines. His Engrish ain't so good, you know, Joe? I said to send it back as well, but we decided to ask the resident experts here first. It seems to me to be the best solution, as well as maybe get some answers as to why it happened...

I belive I have a few spares from my days a ruger armorer. I would check the spring out it might be cracked look for a burr on the slide. I did armorer checks on hundreds of them and never saw any thing like it. Does it cause any funtioning trouble

If I would have found it when doing armorer check on it. I would have checked for burrs replaced the guide rod and spring shot a mag through it if it worked with out any signs of trouble put it back in the feild. As with any moving part things can happen.

I real liked my P89 carried for it for more then 5 years and never any any trouble with them nor did I ever see much trouble with the 500 we had out in the feild.

Now the P93 we went to were junk lots of trouble with them. They were the reason we went to glocks Ruger wouldn't stand behind the 93's
