Just a note of caution for those who shoot the high powder revolvers. I just had another email of a guy who shot his thumb off by holding it to close to the cylinder gap. Things like the 454 500 etc. are all high pressure rounds and 50000 PSI does make a mess out of thumb held to close to the gap

This is the gap between the cylinder and the barrel at the "front" of the cylinder, right? How does get one's thumb close to that gap? That must be a weird grip! Peter. This is from not knowing how to place the supporting hand. It's most probably from watching too many TV shows and movies where the actors hold their guns weird anyways. Used to be 475Guy add about 2000 more posts

Check out this link for more details http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=340585 and for a picture of the gun, http://www.rugerforum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=20497 It is easy to see, with a barrel that long, one could be tempted to hold the gun like a carbine, which I what I speculate they guy did. It works with a Remington XP OK. He suggests that, when he is feeling better, he may post pictures of how he managed this feat. Larry (Lost Sheep)

Ouch for sure. I think with those sling attachments people who don't know anything about handguns may hold up in that area. Still can't believe that happens to someone who has ever fired a handgun.

Jayzuz, I'm suprised he didn't sue S&W for building the gun improperly and allowing him to put his thumb too close to the cylinder. What a dumbass. Used to be 475Guy add about 2000 more posts

Actually, it seems to me that the construction and look of these long barrelled handguns almost encourages some kind of forward hold, just to keep the damn barrel up! Of course, if you hold the barrel then your wrist or forearm will get the brunt of the flash. Peter. Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee.
