drifting out the rear sight

I'm going to remove the rear sight on a Glock 23 to install night sights... I've heard or read that you should always remove dovetailed sights in one direction or the other, I assume because the dovetail is slightly tapered..

Can anyone set me straight on this ?

usually drift in from the left side as you look at the rear, out right to left
