I have owned a 44 mag cailber hangun for about for about 7 years now.

Actual 4 differant 44 mags two redhawks and two Black hawks the blackshawks didn't say around long.

I perfer double action revolvers to single action ones plus they were blued. I rather have stainless handguns.

I took my 7.5 redhawk out is morning stepping out the door and shooting a few clynders full.

After going back into the gun room and tossing the emptys into the right bucket.

I sat down and thinking back about the amount of primers, powder and bullets. I have loaded for the 44 mag I realized that I must have hit right around 10000 rounds of it. 98 percent of it double action.

Not a whole lot just over 1400 rounds a year.

Not as much as some 44plus cailber shooters but a fair amount.

My main paractice load is 240gr swc at about 950fps and my hunting load is a 315gr wfn at just under 1300 fps.

So what does this mean along with thousands more rounds of 380,38,9mm,357,40,41,45acp and 22rf.

I have a heck of a good time shooting and reloading. It is nice to live in a place that allows me to step out the door and shoot.

Just some idle thoughts after I have finshed mowing the grass. I think I'll go shoot a few more rounds.

PS its nice to be retired.

Regular metallic silhouette matches are the way to lean to shoot the 44mag.
For me hunting doesn't help as it's always one shot one deer. Big Grin
A very fine cartridge for sure -- Thanks to Elmer Keith ! tu2

Unless one is hunting varmints like P dogs it normally involves one shot. Big Grin

I shoot 500 to one in practice then in hunting maybe more.

But then for me I view/carry my pistols more as defensive tool then a hunting tool.

But having killed deer, hogs, bear and small game with them. I still view them as a secondary hunting tool. When I really want to kill something I use a rifle.

But I do like to shoot them.

I use to keep fairly accurate records of the number of rounds I put threw all my guns. The records were destroyed in a flooded basement some years ago and since that time my record keeping has been lacking somewhat. I bought a stainless Ruger Redhawk the first year they were availiable and I still have it. Before the records were lost I can recall at least 25,000 rounds recorded in that revolver. I would guess since then I have fired about 1000 rounds a year in that old gun, mostly full house stuff and lots of lead bullets. It is still running and is still accurate and has never had anything break on it. That is a well built revolver. I also have a 3 screw 4 5/8 inch blackhawk in 41 mag that has about 10,000 bullets down the tube and still runnin fine. My 2 1911's have seen about the same use as well.
I don't shoot as much as I used to but retirement allows me time to shoot as often as I feel well enough to get to the range.

I get a lot of disbelieving looks and responses when I mention the amount of shootin I have done in the past. I guess a man has to have at least one vice and shootin is mine.
I have been reloading for nearly 50 years and shootin since I was a pup. I got my first big bore revolver in 1968 although I was shootin them at a much younger age. When I was growing up on the ranch everyone was carrying a 44 or 45 caliber pistola and shootin was just part of the daily activities and targets of opportunity were everywhere. Shootin just came kinda natural like for us youngins

I guess if you look at it on a yearly basis for round count, say 1000 rds per year, and I have been shooting the .44 mag for over 40 years my round count would be at 40,000 or so. Does that make it a VICE! or a hobby or what!
Add into that all the other calibers in handguns alone and I shudder to think of the $$$ I have wasted over the years, YIKES.

Heck its cheap to some sports try car/motorclyle racing ect. Or sitting around a bar drinking chasing women.

My wife gives me a dirty look when I tell I'll give up guns and shooting but I'll have to take up something else. Like chasing around and drinking.
