That reminds me that last night I saw a rerun of a MASH program. They were trying to pick up some wounded POWs from the N Koreans. Supposed to be unarmed one idiot had a pistol .When the NK officer saw it was a 25 auto he just laughed !!
25 ACP is "old school" for back when gangsters carried pistols in their vest pocket. 22 LR has more punch. The 25 ACP was designed for Colt Pocket Pistols back before they figured out how to reliably feed a rimmed 22 LR in a semi-auto mag.
If you own a .25 do not carry it IF you carry a .25 do not load it Because IF you load it you might be tempted to fire it... IF you fire it you MIGHT hit someone... IF you Hit someone they Might Notice...and then you are in the sh#t.
We had a classic example of this when I was at Unviversity...An old lady shot a burgler 3 times in the chest one night. Since (as is often the case) the crook had no identification on him, and was pronounced dead by Ambulance crew, the senior investigating officer had the body finger printed and then sent off to the University medical school- Standard Zim procedure for getting cadavers for students... ( die in the commision of a crime with no ID on you and you have automatically donated your body to science) .
Next morning fresh body was wheeled out for some first year students and the lecturer made a neat slide down the centerline with a scalple...when the body sat up and said- 'No bas!'.
Moral- do not rely on the ambulance crew to say if the person is dead or not (although as an ambulance in Zim is not alowed to carry a dead body only the police, and the doctors never go with the ambulance...) and 2- never shoot anybody you wish to kill with a .25

ive had .25 autos bounce off cans at 15 ft and spin around on the floor. but --- ther was also a fellow shot 7 times with a 45 auto, had to catch a bus to the hospital, and had to change busses before he got there.he survived. so if you compare the two stories the 25 did better than the 45
the 25s bad rep came from alot of underpowered fmj ammo that used to be the only thing available. Load up a 25 with gold dot hps and you sure arent going to see me volunteering to be a test target. Ive shot it through 1/2 plywood with no problem so im sure my skin wouldnt slow it down much. Id feel much more confident carrying a 25 loaded with xtps or gold dots then i would any 22 even a mag.

He also once said something to the effect that a 25 auto brings with it all the disadvantages of carrying a concealed firearm but without being able to defend oneself.
I don't ever remember the Old Man swearing, least of all in print, but we only hung out with him in Arizona and perhaps we only remember what we care to.
I have a couple-3 .25 autos, lots of fun to play with. Factory ammo is very anemic but you can load it up a bit if you are shooting a quality pistol. I have found them to be much more reliable than about any .22 auto I have ever owned. In my Colt Fiocchi 50 gr. factory clocks 620 fps! My loads usnig 35 gr Hornady HP's clock over 1050 fps. Not my first choice for personal defense but better than nothing. C.G.B.
