Been shooting some pins with a pal's Super Redhawk and I just had to get me a 44 Mag. Trouble is good quality ones are not that common here in SA.

Yesterday went to a gunshop in Pietersburg just poking around and they haul out this drop dead gorgeous Commemorative M29 MagnaClassic (1990's vintage) with the rounded grips, target sights trigger, underlug and a blued finish that is liquid. It is from a deceased estate. There is a faint turn line on the cylinder but otherwise it is mint. It has been shot but not much at all.

I am going to enjoy shooting this bad boy on pins and maybe I hunt with it too.

What are the best mounts for this type of revolver?

They don't call those checkered wooden grips "meat grinders" for no reason...

Edmond,

Yep, that is the gun!

OK I loaded up some 300gr Cast bullets with about 6.8gr MP200 (South African Unique).

Recoil is sharp, a bit more than I was expecting. The grips are too small for my mitts, they have to go.

It is very accurate, at 15m offhand the group was about the size of my palm. I know it can do better.

Cheers

pete

I never understood the use of 300 gr or heavier bullets .A proper 240 will work fine on most game .It's easier on a S&W also.I always used a 225 for metallic sihouette and deer hunting and only recovered 1 bullet after close to 30" penetration !Pachmyer rubber grips helped with the recoil.

A steady diet of 300 + grain bullets isn't a good idea in any M 29, but occasional use won't cause any problems. That said, 300 grainers (assuming we are talking hardcast flat-nosed bullets) will exponentially out penetrate any 240 grain expanding bullet. Deer aren't that hard to kill and 240s tend to work well, but if you are hunting something thicker skinned than deer, there are better choices in my experience. I use a 277 grain flat-point at 1,300 fps and it's hell on wheels on game.
