A friend has a 90% plus Colt Series 70 he wants to trade me. Issue: it has a Bomar fl rib and sights installed. Four holes in the slide. Worth $850? thanks, Rich

Not to me, unless it was done by Clark or someone similar. If I wanted it, I'd be more in the $600-650 range. xxxxxxxxxx When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. Rich IF it is a totally accurized 1911, and it shoots like it should, then it would be worth it. One thing to check is it actually still a 38 Super, or has it been modified into a Bullseye Match gun in 38 Special Wadcutter, or even a 38 AMU from back in the day??? It is an early Series 70, the SN# is 28,xxx. It has been tuned, and is still a 38 Super. I shot all four magazines full in it to check function. MOTC* at 25yds. I traded a CETME I paid $200 for several years ago, and 20 HK mags I bought from Cheaper than Dirt for 97-cents apiece for. Straight up. I'll have it in the Ransom Rest tomorrow afternoon at the indoor range and we will see. *Minute of Tin Can

Well, as a 38 Super, a Bomar rib should be able to take full power 38 Super ammo. Just check the recoil spring and make sure it is not a light one for Bullseye type loads. Is the barrel an original Colt 38 Super or an after market, like a Barsto. Also look on the underside of the slide, between the breech and the rear of the slide, and see if there is a set of initals or a date stamp. Some Custom 1911 Pistolsmiths, marked there info there... Also as a side note, back in the day, around the mid 1970's some Police had Bomar Ribs installed, some full length ribs, some half ribs, on standard 1911's, usually in 45 ACP to give them adjustable sights. This was easier to do than to machine the slide for regular Bomar sights, as only some holes had to be drilled and threaded. [At this time the Melted Bomars had not been "thought" of yet...] Rich does the Bomar Rib have the "accuracy tuner" in it??? DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

I would ransom rest it. I have a custom 38 Super built on a Colt 70 series 9mm frame and slide. Also, ransom resting it at 25 yards or less is a waste of time IMHO. Rest it at 50 for a really good evaluation. Just my 2 cents. Still, $850 is probably a pretty good price, if it shoots half way decently. Peter. Be without fear in the face of your enemies. under an inch for 8 rounds of some leftover IPSC 147gr lead loads that made major at 25yds. All I can shoot at the indoor range is 25. Jeez, I got to get my wife to buy me one of these rests. With the weight, no recoil to speak of.
