I am looking at possibly acquiring a SA V-16 long slide in .45 Super. It is in very good condition. If purchased, I would most likely use regular .45 ACP ammo and most likely factory ammo for plinking or defensive loads. I would appreciate any feedback, positive or negative, on this particular pistol and/or comments on Springfield Armory's 1911 products, reputation, service,etc. Thanks in advance for your comments. I've has a Springfield in 45 ACP for near twenty years now, and after I replaced the recoil spring it has behaved just fine. Fit and finish were good, and "she" just keeps on tossing lead where she's pointd. Can't ask for more from a "Springer" or any othewr 1911 for that matter. She's been my "Go-To-Girl" for a long time. Though now she stays home while I'm working because the "Powers-That-Be" think she's dangerous. So I have to take my second favorite girl, my Model 66 Smith.

Thanks, DK. I guess there is not much interest or experience here with Springfield 1911's. RCG

RCG, Springfield 1911s have a very good reputation, however, you mentioned specifically a "long slide" model and the 45 Super cartridge. Both I suspect are not "run of the mill". Is this a very old model? I don't hear much about the 45 Super these days. Peter. Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. I'll agree with Peter on the reputation that Springfield has. I shoot one as a service match pistol, all I've done is added a Bowmar sight to it. I looked at .45 Super a while back ago and still want one. I'd go for it. A bad day at the range is better than a good day at work.

Peter & Sam: According to the Blue Book, the V-16 ported .45 Super was last made in 2004. This pistol is coming out of an estate and I am unable to find records at this point. I have seen and handled it and it appears in VG to Exc condition without a complete strip and exam. As mentioned, I would probably shoot regular .45 ACP loads as I currently do not reload handgun ammo. What makes this attractive is that the executor said they would cut a good deal. We shall see. Thanks for the feedback guys. RCG

I would go for it as well. The longer sight radius of the long slide should give superb accuracy. Peter. Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong;

+1 on Springfield's 1911s, I've had a "Loaded" for several years and it's as accurate and reliable as any other I've seen. As long as you can get it to function acp flavored cartridges you'll probably be very pleased.

I've had a Springfield V16 Long Slide since 2003 ish . Mine is the same gun as the ones that say "45 Super" on it but Springfield was forced to take it off due to a stupid copyright issue which essentially killed the 45 Super. I love my gun. It's incredibly accurate, recoil is almost non-existent with 45 ACP loads and about like a normal 45 with 45 Super loads (230g at 1150 fps). I shoot 45 ACP for practice and always shoot two clips of 45 Super to end the range session. I shoot only my own 45 Super handloads for self defense (230g bonded Golden Sabre's at 1150 fps). I use mine for concealed carry, but it is a little big. You have to buy 45 Super brass (Starline) if you want to shoot 45 Super loads in it. Good luck, it's an awesome pistol.
