Hey Men,

What are you off-duty LEOs/CCW guys carring these days? I'm leaning toward either a Para Warthog or maybe Hog 9, possible a Sig 9mm.

Thoughts?????

I carry a Glock 21 almost everyday.I'm a big guy and wear baggy shirts,so I guess it's easier to for me to conceal.I've almost always preferred a full size gun over a compact.I did carry a G27 for a while.I carried a G35 for 2 years. The extra capacity, longer sight radius, and more grip for my big hands is why I want to carry a full size.

Well, I love my 21, but I don't think I could get away with trying to carry it concealed here in Bakersfield with the 100+ days (degrees) we have during the summer. I would feel pretty safe with it though.

When I carried, I would almost always carried a 1911. They're a little longer, but they're narrow, which to me is MUCH easier to conceal than a wider pistol, even in shirt and shorts. I used a Wilson Combat inside the waistband holster and just wore my t-shirts / polo shirts loose over my shorts. There may be other pistols out there easier to conceal overall, but I prefer a 1911 to nearly anything.

It all depends on where you want to conceal it, how, what you're wearing, etc. I doubt you'll see anyone with a 1911 strapped to their ankle, but depending on your choice of clothes and frame, there are a lot of holster options for carrying one.

To me, the thickness of a gun is a much greater factor in concealment than it's length. You can hide length a lot easier than you can hide a bulky frame. Smaller than a 1911 I'd recommend an old Walther PPK .380 for the same reason.

Houston is not much better heat wise.Heat and humidity. You just need to use a S.O.B.(small of the back) holster and wear those shirts with square tails. You see them worn mostly by hispanics. Like a hawaiian shirt just not as loud.I wear a Wilderness Instructor belt with the plastic insert for holster wear.

Lots of people will ask me that I carry. I never leave home without the Seecamp and a auto knife. Plus I will carry my Glock 27 or a Sig 226. And I wear short 90% of the time. Galco seems to be what gunleather I choose. The Sig sometimes go on my side mosty in winter.

Baby Glock 33 (.357SIG) in a DeSantis IWB holster most of the time.

When I'm out in black bear country then it's a Taurus 450T totally titanium 5 shot snubby 45 Colt in a Bianchi hi-ride hip holster.

My barbeque CCW gun is a nickel plated, ivory grip Colt MK IV\series 80 government model 380acp. I just carry it in a velcro-flapped pocket of my cargo pants.

My carry gun is a bobtailed 1911 lightweight commander in a Milt Sparks summer special. I forget it is there. I recently got an XD45 and cant imagine trying to conceal it or any other "duty" weapon effectively. Big and bulky in comparison.

I'm not the biggest guy in the world (5'4") but I don't have a problem concealing a Glock 19 under a untucked shirt. That said I tend to carry my Glock 26. Except in the winter when I am wearing many layers of clothes I prefer inside the waistband holsters, I use either Bladetech or my old Orca brand one.

A Firestar in 40 seems to get the nod 50% of the time. The other 50% goes to an old school (S&W K sights, dehorned) 45 Commander. A NAA .32 Guardian or NAA 22 Mini ride in a pocket at the same time. Recently acquired a Star PD NIB and as soon as reliability is established (no problems so far) it will probably replace the Firestar. I like 1911 SA cocked & locked platforms because that's what I have used for 39 years. Kramer or Sparks leather gets the nod every time. IWB with a loose knit shirt outside the pants or a sleveless T shirt under an open shirt like a Bass Pro or Columbia type fishing shirt.

I've always been partial to the 1911;but I'm considering the new Kahr .45.I know their 9mm is easily concealable but never cared much for the calibre. Now they have the 45,I think that may be the ticket.

I carry a Model 27 Glock most of the time. If it's winter/loose coat weather, I may carry the Kimber CDP (full size .45). But, it's difficult for me to hide..... The Glock fits in most of my front pockets without a signature....

I am a 1911 fan, but in our Arizona heat I found I was not carrying as much as I would have liked. Any reliable firearm you possess for CCW is good but only if you carry it. My Kahr PM9 is perfect. Accurate, excellent function, easily concealed even in shorts, and there if and when I need it. I also favor my S&W Airweight with the hammer spur ground off, and my Glock 27. But the Kahr is a winner. salute

For a quick trip to the stop and rob,a Tarus titanium snubbie in 44 special w/200 gr jhp's At night w/ my family to the restaurant I stick a North America arms .32 loaded w/ Corbons or Glazer safety slugs in my front pocket. For my truck gun and rent collecting I carry a glock 36 in 45 acp loaded w/ 230 gr JHP's. As an aside, I've put two wounded deer down with the 230 gr jhp rounds and man I wouldn't want to be hit with them.

A Taurus 605 snub nose 357 mag. 5 shot revolver and sometimes a Taurus Millenium Pro in 45ACP. Both are easily concealed and I wear them in a SOB holster. I use 200gr +P Gold Dot ammo in the 45 and either 125gr or 158gr Gold Dot ammo in the 357, depending on whether its summer or winter.

Para Ord is coming out with a new one called the Para Carry Gap(45 gap). It is a 1911 style and it's small(I think it will have a 3" and a 3.5" barrel option) and has a bobbed hammer. It will also have the LDA trigger. It received a great review from Guns & Ammo. I'll try attach a link to the article. I'll be first in line to buy one when they release. http://www.gunsandammomag.com/ga_handguns/para45gap_050806/Good luck, Dave

My constant companion is a Glock 29 in an Uncle Mike's ITP stuffed with factory Winchester 175 gr. Silvertips. I'm 6'2" 200 lbs. and with an untucked shirt, Glock 26, 23 and Browning Hi-Power all work well ITP, too. I've actually carried up to & including a 4" S&W 29-2 in an ITP (often) and a 7 1/2" Super Blackhawk....a couple times.... with the tension of my belt (just to see if I could.....and I could).

IMHO a 1911 Commander in 45 ACP is the best all round carry pistol.
The original Commander, the one most people now call the Lightweight Commander.

I've had great luck with my Kimber ultra carry. It weighs next to nothing, is slim, and you can't complain about the 45 acp's track record.

Nebraska's CCW goes into effect 1 Jan 07. I have a stainless Springfield "Loaded" Champion (4" 1911) and Alessi GWH (IWB) and ACP (OWB) leather waiting. Commander-size 1911s, gotta love 'em!

Living near Houston, I too wear shorts when not at work and shirt tails out. Under that I usually carry a Kahr P9 in a COMP-TAC.COM Kydex paddle FBI slant holster. They also make so nice IWB and SOB models.

The Kahr is small yet accurate.

Lately, I have been carrying either a 325PD with a 342PD backup, or a M15 2" with a Colt Agent backup. This is because I mostly prefer revolvers, and can dress how I want. However, when I know I'm going to HAVE to carry all day with no opportunity to shift or scratch or do anything except make a nature call, I often fall back on the one 100% known livable combination - stainless Government Model (Series 80) in a Milt Sparks Summer Special. My backup then is usually a Model 37 Square Butt in a Renegade ankle holster.

Ben589 had it right. Thickness is the issue.

YMMV

I agree with hikerbum. I have a hammerless S&W airweight that is great for carry. The trigger pull was a nightmare so I had it worked & now I love it. I'm going to add a crimson trace laser overmold grip, then it will be just right.

I sold my Commander and now regret it. I never carry concealed (or at least don't admit to it) but think the new S&W 1911 commander length length barrel on a Scandium frame may be one of the better options now on the market.

I very much like the HK P7 M8 for summer carry. Nice and flat ... low barrel line over the wrist. Like shooting a pencil. Very accurate. Sadly, they are out of production and parts are getting hard to come by.

1911's and SIG 226 or 229s are about as reliable as it gets. I like them in .40 S&W or .45 ACP for winter carry. Never took a shine to the Glocks.

The problem with a carry gun is not the length of the slide of barrel ... it's the length of the butt. I have wondered why folks did not find the commander with a full length slide or a comped commander slide interesting.

When I carried everyday it was usually a Walther PPK/s.380, or an S&W Mod 60, or in winter S&W Mod 66 4". Now if I carry it's my Sig 220 as I am fat enough to absorb the bastard into hiding! Not really, but it is so much more gun if you need it, and just small enough to have with you.

Highly worked over Colt Pocket Nine by Scott and McDougal in a custom inside front pocket leather holster.
The Pocket Nine has second strike capability, works with or without magazine.
Works great for jeans, shorts, suits whatever. Never have to worry about if my shirt is tucked or not tucked. I wear shirt tucked 99% of time.
Many men walk around with a hand in a pocket? If so...one of my hands is around the butt of my 9 m/m and I have 7 shots. You might say I have a head start. It is the biggest "little gun" I could find at the time.
Now you have Kel Tec in 9 m/m.

Colt Detective Special 4th Issue .38 Special, Walther PPK .380 ACP, and CZ-75 BD 9mm.

Sold a S&W Model 457 .45 ACP a while back that was accurate, relatively small and very flat making it very easy to conceal. Sorta wish I had it back.
