Looking for something different to play with at the moment. I remembered a model 58 41 mag I had. I got it from a friend who needed money about the last ice age. Shot it when I first got it, and it has sat since then. I have 44 magnums, so I dont care about full power loads. I was thinking of it in terms of a big model 10 38 special. It might have had a tune-up as it is very smooth double action. It has a .4" wide, smooth trigger, was that standard? Anyway, a pleasant shooting load is what I'm looking for, to play with DA and SA fire.

Just like loading any of the straight walled revolver cases. A cast bullet in the 800 to 1000fps range well give you what you want. Look at Herco 8 grs with a 210gr cast gives about 900fps. Any of the lead bullet loads with the faster powders should do just fine.

What powders do you have? 8 gr. of Unique was always my standard load with a 210-215 gr SWC for about 950 fps. Longshot works very well in the 41 mag, too.

About everything for powders, including extinct ones, like Alcan 7 and 8. 900 fps sounds about right, I'll start with unique and herco.

One that works well for me is 8.0 grains of 231 with a 210 LSWC. Not very clean burning, but nicely accurate and soft. I used a lot of 231 back when and while now I try and optimize powder choices, this works great for me.
