A few years back I bought a Cimarron Thunderer in 45 Colt with an extra 45 ACP cylinder. I have carried it in a Mernickle holster when I tramp the back woods. I was surprised how well and accurately it shot. Saturday at my local gun hang shop I went in to have him sell a stainless Ruger Mark 1 that I had never shot. The RST model. In walks a chap with a Cimarron Lightening in .38 Special. Well, he walked out with mine, and me with his. Only shot it a little today, as it has been very wet and raining. It is a sweet little revolver. "When you play, play hard; when you work, don't play at all." Theodore Roosevelt

let me know more about how the fit, finish and quality of the Lightning is? I am looking at one for wilderness carry. Love the looks and do not need more than 38.

Overall I would say excellent. I have shot my Thunderer (45 Colt) a great deal with no complaints. The issue with any single action revolver is sight regulation. It was easy on my Thunderer and only required slight filing of the front sight to regulate POI with POA. The Lightning required horizontal as well as vertical regulating and I did not want to mess with it. I sent it off to Hamilton Bowen in Tennessee and should have it back in a few weeks. Shooting it, the little I did before it went out, was fine. Little or no recoil; the grip is very comfortable; the revolver overall is very tight; and a joy to carry. Will report more when I get it back. For a holster I would recommend Mernickle. He made the one for my Thunderer and quite frankly, though a little loose, it works for the Lightning. He builds the holster for the gun and makes one you can carry strong side or weak. "When you play, play hard; when you work, don't play at all." Theodore Roosevelt
