I have a very nice example of this revolver in shootable condition, circa 1899. The barrel is marked "Colt DA .38". Is that .38 Long Colt, Short Colt or another different cartridge? Where could I purchase a commercial edition of this cartridge? Thanks for your help. Regards, Bob

That should be the 38 Long Colt , introduced in 1875 and later was the US Army cartridge until 1911. Factory loaded at 150 gr @ 770 fps. Found to have poor performance in the Spanish-American War therefore the change to 45acp...Do a computer search to find ammo or at least empty cases.

Be aware that it has serious collector value as well! The real performance issues came when shooting Moro tribesman in the Philipines who were fond of narcotics use when going to battle! "No one told you when to run; you missed the starting gun."
