Just bought a new Colt Govt 1911 in .45. It has the full length guide rod. Does this gun strip down and reassemble the same way as the traditional guide rod? I have somehow gotten the barrel bushing cocked to one side and cant move it by hand. The pistol did not come with a bushing wrench, so I am probably stuck until I can get one...

MIke, Yep it will probably take a wrench. I had a Kimber that I tried to disassemble before I shot it. It was so tight I got the bushing stuck too. Finally managed to tap the bushing down a bit with a rubbver hammer to get it so I could return it to operating position. After I ran a box of ammo through it it was just fine! Hope this helps? Thanks Rusty, I ended up doing essentially the same thing. Plastic tip mallet, brass punch. Got the plug to move just enough to allow the bushing to move into its proper position. Everything slick, smooth and normal. This pistol is a beauty, but you can cut yourself on the machined edges of the slide and frame...Having those edges smoothed and maybe replacing the full length rod for a shorter version are some of the changes I want to make. Thanks for the reply, Mike.
