Sounds like USPSA 9mm Major loads to me. It really depends on the gun. What little I have done with it is operating at 55K PSI or more.

This is a good reason not to pick up left over ammo at the range and stuff it in your Glock- It may be "perfection" but it does not have a fully supported chamber, and the kaboom factor is high....

What piqued my interest in this cartridge was the article in May/June Front Sight magazine by Robin Taylor.

In the article he stated he got a five round average velocity of 1423.6 fps with a 125gr. JHP from a standard polygon barrel of a Glock G17! Eeker

I would really like to see some SAAMI pressure info on this cartridge.

that sounds like one of my 38 super loads after about 8 beers. no thanks. i push it a little bit with some rifle loads that i am familiar with like 7x57, and by pushing it, i mean 0.4 grains with a longer oal for a deep throat. i learned early on with pistols that if you push it a dumped mag and cracked grips is a sign. i stay within the manuals on pistols, especially with winchester brass. all these folks loading 10mm to nuke capacity are one session away from keloid scar tissue and no good explanation.

a 9 is so nice within its design parameters there is no need to push it. stay with 124-125 grainers b/w 1100-1140 fps and you are in good shape. nice follow-up and fire another in a half second.

i beat a nice 38 super to peened crap shooting loads that were too hot when i was young. stay within the limits and these rides will last a long time.

In the old days IPSC major was a power factor of 175 ... but you need a little bit extra just to make sure so most folks loaded to 180 more or less. This meant pushing a 135 gr bullet at 1330 fps or a 124 gr bullet at 1440 fps. I shot hundreds of thousands of rounds of that stuff.

Kinda like a .357 Magnum.

Before the advent of the ramped barrel there was a condition called "Super Face." It occurred with the unsupported part of the cartridge case cut loose on firing. It was done safely in 1911 based guns built like bank vaults (good slides, ramped barrels, comps, etc.) using very good Remington +P brass.

Over the course of time I cracked two 9mm Springfield slides. They would last between 35 and 40 thousand rounds. Barrels usually made 18 thousand rounds.

About that same time IPSC banned major 9mm because it had a bad tendency to blow up HiPowers (that were built and/or used by folks who were less that extremely careful. Some folks went so far as to make their brass from .223 Rem cases to be sure it would survive the experience.

Frankly, major 9 is just a bad idea.

If you want a cannon ... go to 40 S&W. Brass is stronger than 10 mm. The Norma 135 gr bullet can be drive very, very fast with the right powder. If built on a 1911 frame, the ammo can be loaded close to 10 mm length and amazing velocities achieved safely. I've gotten 1540 fps with that bullet from a 1911 built with a Colt Delta Elite slide shortened by a half inch and a Nowlin Ramped barrel fitted with a compensator.

Perfomance is amazing ... and frightening. I shot a doe with it at 60 yards ... the bullet detonated in the chest. She literally did a front summersault and was dead when she hit the ground. Made jello out of everything north of the diaphagm. I can't imagine pointing something like that at a person, and an accident is unthinkable!

To get back to the start of this though....

The .355 Super is Atlanta Arm's factory loaded 9mm major loads. They headstamp it this way to avoid liability issues it seems. Anyhow, its a 9X19 case size loaded to USPSA Major power factor. (which is now 165)

It will fit in any 9mm handgun. However, as many have noted here, that may be a very bad idea.
