I am looking for a better/quicker entry handgun safe to replace the old lock/key type that I currently keep in our bedroom. I am intrigued by the recent arrival of biometric fingerprint safes like the Biosaf or the InPrint by 9G, but I am wondering about their consitency and reliability. Has anyone here used either of those models or something similar? If not, what would you consider the most reliable quick entry handgun safe? Thanks, Chris

What or what doesn't happen if the batterys die? If you can't smell his breath, your're not close enough!

According to the site, it beeps when the battery gets low and you plug in a charger. If it goes completely dead, you unscrew the nameplate and use a tubular key to open it. No big deal. You change the battery when you change your smoke detector.

I fully support the use of hi-tech stuff, but if someone is in my house that isn't supposed to be....I want as little as possible between me and my loaded 1911. KISS principle works here!! The year of the .30-06!! 100 years of mostly flawless performance on demand.....Celebrate...buy a new one!!

I wonder how noisy they are when opening. The one at work is old and terrible noisy when opening! That doesn’t do much for the element of surprise.

I don't know how noisy it might be. I'd suspect you could tweak it by adding some felt pads to any metal to metal contact points. I'd like to find a biometric in-the wall long gun safe for a shotgun. I'd even settle for something with a keypad. I haven't seen one that will fit between wall studs and still offer some quick access. Anyone?

I have a finger print reader on my laptop. I use it most of the time to log in. It takes less time than typing in a passowrd, but takes a second swipe about 10% of the time and a 3rd swipe on occasion. It seems that the more of a hurry I'm in the more likely it is to misread the print and require a second or third swipe. I have the safes with the simplex locks. I find them to be secure enough, fast and I like that they don't rely on batteries or sensitive electronics. I would not keep a defensive handgun in one yet. Just my opinion, though.

Gsganzer: http://www.vlineind.com/ These guys make a simplex locked wall safe in two sizes one is for flush mount between studs and the other holds three guns and sticks out a bit more. I plan on getting one when I have more disposable cash. I already got one of their handgun safes and am happy with it. I went ahead and bought the Mossberg Loc Box instead ($43). It is a key lock and doesn't conceal the firearm or protect it from damage, but it does secure a shotgun to the wall well enough to keep the kids from messing with it.
