I am looking at the 610 model. Does anyone have experience with them and how hot can you load a 10mm in them?

i wont give you loads because there not in the books but ive ran my 10mm up to where it was in the 41 mag class. My 610 is the most accurate N frame smith ive ever owned. Only thing that makes me angry is why they went to a large primer in the case. Every time i load i have to swap primer assemblys on my 40sw setup.

Yup, large primer was a mistake- causes many AD's in pistols when the ejector catches it whilst unloading...but in a rolly.... Give me large pistol primers for reliability!

I used one for the IPSC world champs in 2002. Lovely gun. I also used it for field carry for a year. By seating the bullets out so that the case just held them I could get 200grn to 1300fps out of a 37?8 barrel.

Switched to a .44 because a) I had three, b) bigger holes in the cylender, makes for quicker loading. It was definately a small but significant drawback compared to a S&W 625 for IPSC revolver class

Years ago I had Hamilton Bowen rechamber a 610 to 10mm Magnum. Velocities were up around 1500, as I recall.

I have a 629 currently and have been using it for IDPA shooting. This is also a handgun I carry for wilderness defense as well. I was thinking of switching over to the 610 for both IDPA with the use of moon clips shooting it in 40 and still load it hot for wilderness carry for work.

Wrong plan. Even before I worked the trigger on my 610 I had occasional missfires with .40 in it. With soft primers like federal it may work (we cannot get them) but with CCI thumbdown There is too much spring in the clips to work with a small hard primer considering the case isn't headspacing properly.

What I did was convert one 629 to use full moon clips. I use .44 special brass exclusively in it, and swop cylender back to the original one if I need to shoot .44 mag.

:44 is much quicker to load than 10mm (not quite up to 625 standards but close...) and if you want fully power you are not pushing the friendship to get there.

Last consideration, the .44's use a fluted cylender- the 610 a solid one. The DA trigger pull on my .44 is 7lbs and that ignites CCI magnum primers every time. I coulödn't get the trigger on the 610 as sweet. close (about 8lbs) but if you are going to shoot alot...I suspect you could drop the trigger pull to 6.5 or even 6lbs by using the titanium cylender for the 329 in place of a steel one for you full moon clip loads - oh and buy .44 rusian brass - it will make for even quicker reloads than .44 Special.

ive shot thousands of 40s in my 610 without problems. But then i gave up on cci primers in any da gun years ago. I use only federals and if i cant get them and im desperate i use ww.
