I had a question regarding the Ruger 2.5" 454 Casull. Hope this is the place to ask.

I'm considering buying this revolver mainly because I can shoot 45 LCs and if need be the .454. But I can't imagine getting any good accuracy firing the 454 from a 2.5" barrel. 'Course we're talking self defense at about maybe 10' so maybe accuracy wouldn't be an issue.

I'm also glad I found this sight 'cause I got a couple of revolvers and a shotgun I'd like to sell sometime soon.

After talking with my local gun dealer I think I'm gonna pick one of these up.

You DON"T want to shoot the 454 without ear protection!!! NEVER!! I fired one shot without ear protection, and have suffered some lose. I had been shooting the 454 and was loading up to go home and saw that there was one round left in the box, without thinking I loade it into the revolver and sent it down range without putting my ears on. What a mistake.

I had one and sold it. I did alot of load work up for that gun and if i used loads it liked it would easily shoot into 2 inches at 25 yards off the bench, which is plenty good even in the hunting field.

Protection from what? The 454 in a decent size 6" is a handfull. A 4" S&W or Ruger Redhawk 44mag is almost the same size as a 2 1/2" SRH, easier to shoot & hits pretty damn hard @ 10FT.

actually i own a 4 5/8s FA 454 and had a super redhawk 454 and the alaskan had less felt recoil then either of them. I believe it is because the bullet spend less time in the barrel and have less time to impart recoil. Ive noticed the same in other guns. My two 4 inch 500 linebaughs have less felt recoil then my 5.5 inch gun had.

Well, it finally came in today but I can't pick it up till Thursday thanks to Illinois law. Or is that federal law now?
