My buddy ordered one a few weeks ago. Being in NYC it'll be 3 months before he can take possession.

I don't own one, but I do own an old Sig 220 Sport in 45acp with a stainless frame and it's super accurate even with shots out to 90 yards, but it's SA/DA and the X5 is single action, but $1100 less new! The one thing about all those Sigs is that they are large pistols, so if you're used to shooting the full-size Sigs the X5 would be a perfect choice and a step up from the 226 and even the sport models. Those new X5s are over $2K and the quality control of Sigs has recently been hit and miss. If I were to spend that kind of dough and I wasn't using it for competition I would go with the Sig 210. I recently picked one up and haven't really tested it, but for the money there are few alternatives for non-competition guns, and I've never heard of a Sig 210 breaking or having mechanical problems. Or if you want to be obscure you could hunt for a Sphinx 3000! There was one on Gunbroker for $2K awhile back and I'd go with that over the X5 just for the rarity factor and its limited but awesome reputation if you can find another. I'm just a backyard shooter so it made sense for me to go with the Sig 220 Sport and 210 and use the rest for bullets and powder.

Like to see some photos and a report on the 210. Did you get one of the new ones SIG just launched? Can't get em in Kaliforniastan.

I own a Sig P220ST and I agree about the accuracy. However I have not seen a P210 in the $2K price range in about 10 years! I am really looking for a 9mm with target level accuracy. Understand that by this I mean x ring accuracy at 25 yards from a pistol rest. I have come close with my Glock 17L with tailored loads, but the results have not been repeatable. The only other game in town is a S&W 952. Peter. Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Sorry Macifej, I haven't had an opportunity to get out on to the range for a test as I'm still putting together various loads as it's my first time loading 9mm. The P210 I own is a 210-6 with fixed sights. I see people asking up to $3K for 210s, but I rarely see them sell for that. More like $1900-2300. Peter, if you're not averse to online sales I just saw one on Gunbroker used for $2k buy it now, it's used, but it's a nice piece. The one thing I wish mine had was adj. sights. That probably won't fit your needs, but aftermarket adj. sights are available. I'm willing to bet the X-Five can meet your expectations, but it's a new pistol to market and there's not enough definitive tests on accuracy. I rarely buy new, so it's also in my view more than many P210s I would consider. That you have a Sig 220ST already and are familiar with it would be a big plus though! Most any P210 would fit your needs accuracy wise as would a 952 if I understand your accuracy expectations being around 1-1.5 inches or so at 25 yds (sorry, don't know X-ring!) I'm going to see if I can find pics of mine, and I promised myself I would get out by the end of the next week to shoot, so hopefully I can finally do this as I'm curious to see how accurate they are... or how poor a shot I am! Also, a customized Hi-Power with a bar-sto fitted barrel and a trigger job may get you there and for perhaps less...

Thanks 300. I appreciate your comments. The boilerplate for the L1 says it can shoot 2" at 50 yards. This is IMHO excellent for a 9mm. It is also a 19+1 gun which makes it more "useful" than the 952 which is basically a Bullseye gun only. I have a S&W 659 with a fitted Barsto barrel. It shoots well but not up to the standard I am looking for. I also have a Glock 17 with a Wilson barrel.Again, it shoots well but.... It is also hampered by the shorter sight radius. MY S&W model 52 shoots very well, but it is a 38 spl wadcutter gun. I will go out to GunBroker and take a look for P210's. Modified post: I looked at the P210 on Guinbroker. It is a Danish gun in so so condition IMHO. Thanks again, Peter. Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. Well, 2" at 50 yards is pretty much the accuracy standard of a P210, which must be the X5's goal. Methinks the X5 would be a good choice. Plus, who can argue with a 19 round capacity! Very right on the Danish one, I forgot those go for a bit less! There is also a Swiss issued one for $1650 I noticed as well. The main reason I went with the 210 is because mine was priced rationally and it has a 50+ year reputation. I think there is a big snob factor to these things, kinda like pricey flyfishing rods, but in 50 years people have found the demands for a 9mm have changed. Either way, I also got it out of curiosity. I really want to see what it'll do accuracy wise in my hands and so I can't wait to test it. If I were in your shoes and wanted a target grade piece I would go with the X5. It was built as a target gun, while the P210 is essentially a hand-built service weapon with target gun characteristics! Good luck and let me know what you pick up...

Thanks 300. Please post your accuracy results with the 210! I agree about the mystique of that pistol! Peter. Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Hi Peter, I had the chance to do some informal testing this past weekend. I had to build a nice heavy backstop first so since I only had time for one, I decided at just at if not a shade under 40 Yards. I planned originally to shoot at 25 and 50, but it was so muddy I couldn't get out to my usual shooting spot! My loads began with Win231 at around 4.3 grs. with a 124gr. XTP and around 1.095 inches, which is a little short OAL so with the Unique loads I went to the 1.100" range. I then used 4.4 up to 4.6 grs. of Unique with the 124 XTP and got better results. I used federal primers for both loads in Unique and 231. I found the 231 metered really well in my Belding and Mull measure but Unique did not, so after decent, but less than stellar results I went back and scale measured each load to get exactly 4.5 grs. Ugh, that took some time, but I think it was worth it so far... I shot from a rest, but stupid on my part I chose little 1.5 inch bullseyes for white paper and at that distance, to line the sights up consistently after each shot was a little imprecise. Anyways, here's my best 8 shot group along with another target that showed typical results. Note those little bullseyes as I cut 4 of them out as the first shot seemed to like to hit that little guy, then the others migrated to another predictable vicinity. Overall, I am pretty happy. These groups may not be the best out of the 210s but I'm still working on loads, and 4.6 of Unique isn't really moving velocity wise, but it did very well for me as I am a 22 target shooting guy more often than these fixed sight pistols. I want a globe peep sight, you know?! Sorry for the long reply! Here's a couple targets and the Pistol in question.

I forgot to mention too that I went with a Lee factory crimp die with the later load tests as well, and this seemed to tighten the groups up a bit more along with measuring out the powder for each one. I don't know that I would do this in the future as it's a hassle and a half, especially if loading a couple hundred for off-hand plinking! I just wanted to make sure everything was as consistent as it could be with what I have, but I will use the Lee crimp die as it did help. I may try some more with win231 down the line as it metered better. This is really just a test to get something consistent so that I can practice off-hand more in the future and not have to second guess the load and just focus on my mistakes!

Good looking gun, 300H! I don't weigh individual charges for my 9mm. I don't for my 45 ACP and get very good results, so I am not about to do that for the 9mm. My best load for my Glock 17L is 115 gr. HP and 5.0 grains of Universal Clays. I would recommend using a standard 25 yard Bullseye target which has a good size black aiming point. I do taper crimp. Peter, I think I have some universal clays, so I will look to try that next. Weighing individually is not any fun, so I hope to do that very little in the future! Just the way it was going with the drop tube and Unique I saw variations so I weighed them all. With the 9mm I thought it may matter but maybe not so! Thanks for the loads. I will see what 115gr. bullets I can get locally and give them a go...

Well, you are correct in that certain powders meter well (eg. Bullseye) and the flake powders do not meter well. I just think that an accurate gun should not be that sensitive about the charge. Powder throwers are only accurate to 2/10ths of a grain anyway! Peter. Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. I think in the future I will worry less about it, but with the Unique and the thrower set to 4.5 grs. I was sometimes getting 4.4 and 4.6-4.7 grs. which I thought was pretty dramatic. I guess what I'm wondering is if that variation from 4.5 to 4.6 is gonna matter on paper. I've never reloaded for 9mm before this, so I don't know. I doubt in a 30-06 it would be a big deal though! I'll just keep working at it and see how it goes, tons of things screw with accuracy I'm a big part of the equation too!
