My dad had one of the first Ruger Marksman I with the fixed sights. Still shoots as good as it did back in 1960.

The problem is comes with the old fixed sights front and back.

What type of trick do you have to improve seeing the sights. Still dead on but the old sight is black on black square notch.

I have tried painting the front sight a white or yellow which seems to help till you shoot paper or such.

Help needed for old eyes.

I am not sure what the problem is. If this is a target gun then the sights should be black. The focus should be on the front sight, and typically, bullseye shooters use a 6 o'clock hold. The object is NOT to focus on all three: rear sight, front sight and target. So, the issue is can you focus on the front sight? When I had my eyes tested for new glasses I told the guy I wanted to able to focus on the front sight of a pistol. I held out my arm and he measured the distance from my eye to the place where the front sight would be. If you are not bullseye shooting then a red dot would work fine.

3 years ago I was operated for a starting cataract on my right (dominant) eye. Long range sight was perfect after that and I just needed glasses for reading. Rifle shooting with scopes and using binos was not affected. When pistol shooting, I could see the target perfectly but... my front sight was too close and looked fuzzy. I bought a pair of Gehmann shooting glasses, actually a special frame adjustable in every possible way. With it, I went to my optician (before opening hour, having agreed on my bringing a pistol along for accurate measuring) and he fitted it with an optical lens focused on my pistol FS.

I also added some accessories to the Gehman frame, like an adjustable iris, shield covering the left eye, etc.

Results are spectacular and thanks to the iris, I see everything clear from rear to front sight AND target !

5 shots are a group.

Forgot to mention that you should be able to find a reflex type sight that will fit your Ruger.
