I have this S&W 1911 in 9x19 calibre.
It is a very nice gun, good accuracy and good trigger.
The problem is that lately it has started to jam.
The extractor seems to jump the rim of the empty cartridge leaving it in the camber ant the new cartridge bumps into the empty one, and the jam is a fact.

I have been told that this is a common fault on these guns, usually do to a build up of fouling under the extractor.
I have tried to clean behind the extractor as good as I can with degreasing spray, and then spraying it with thin gun oil.

Still it jam, usually three or four times during a box of 50 cartridges.
I have changed magazines from Metalform, to Wilson, to Brownells but can`t see any significant difference.

The extractor it self looks fine with no burrs or any damage.
The spring seems to be tight as well.

What to do?
Let a smith look it over, change the extractor or is there any quick fix?

I can't remember, are the S&W's external extractor guns?

Regardless, check the extractor tension. If it's loose, you should still be able to bend it and adjust it (I haven't done this with an external extractor model though). YouTube it. I think Wilson Combat has a video on checking and adjusting.

It has an external extractor.
It seems like it is exposed to collect oil / powder / dust residue behind the claw, which stop it from getting a full grip of the cartridge rim and the claw slips over the rim.
To be replaced or controlled it needs to se a smith, as the locking pin is set by hydraulic pressure, or so I have been told.
Not for a clumsy guy like me to try to fix.

A reminder not to buy a S@W 1911 style pistol.
