weird Colt question...

traded into a Colt/Essex hybrid. Got a question...the Colt slide is rollmarked:

"PATENTED APR. 20,1897 SEPT.9, 1902 (Has Rampant Horse stamp) the COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO."
second line reads "DEC. 10, 1905.FEB.14, 1911. AUG.19, 1913 HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.

Under the ejection port on the other side is the number 38XX.

Am I correct in assuming that the slide once sat atop a government model frame? Wish the gun matched and was all Colt instead of an Essex frame.
