I put my reddot from off my shotgun on the mod 29 today and found the scope was dead put a new battrie in it and well looks like its done.
So now I am looking to get a pistol scope.
The red dot worked ok, but had no magnification.
I have a problem with the cross hairs because I wear tri focals and it gets to be an issue trying to see the cross hairs and the target.
What would you go to or recommend that might work for me. i was thinking around 20 power

Depends on what your plan to use the gun for. I have a 629 and have it scoped with an old B&L 2-6 power. It works well for casual paper punching and is very adequate for deer out to 100 yards or a little further. On a good day I can shoot 2.5" 100 yard groups with this gun.
If you scope it and plan to shoot more than say 50 yards, I would not have less than 4X power.
My brother has a 2X on his and that is not enough magnification is many cases.

20 power ??? I've never heard of a handgun with a 20X scope !

There's more movement with a handgun than rifle and most shooters don't normally go over 2X for handgun . With eye problems you should go to a gunshop and try both different magnifications and crosshairs .Crosshairs can make a big difference. Shotgun crosshairs can have very thick lines .I looked at one that were thick enough to subtend 3" at 100 yds.Makers can change the crosshairs if needed. Leupold will do that.

yep 20pwr seems like a lot for a revolver.... as for seeing the crosshairs i got new glasses and could not get my crosshairs in my scopes to focus so i told an optomitrist here in town and he told me bring my scope to the office.... i looked throigh the scope into the instrument and he made me lenses to see through my scope with.........
just a thought for ya.......................

Forget power....get an Ultra Dot and don't look back. I finally put one on my 44 magnum and love it.
