P22 or Mosquito?

I've been contemplating getting a Walther or Sig .22rf for plinking/training. I've handled both of these pistols but have fired neither. Do any of you have a preference one way or the other?
Thanks
Brad

I would search the web for reviews of both these guns. I may be misquoting but I thought I heard some negative reports on the Mosquito.

I know it's not on your list, but I would suggest you also consider the Beretta Neos in that category.

Just picked one up last weekend and it is a blast. Functions very well and is more accurate than I expected. A great, low-cost plinker for sure.

I own both. Try both in your hand, they are very different grip sizes. The p22 is reliable with mini-mags after a pretty good break in. the SIG isn't there yet but I haven't shot it much

My only experience is with the P22. All I can say is I am extremely happy with the accuracy and functioing.
Using remington golden bullets it has been flawless. One of the most fun handguns in my collection.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

I have the p22. I am not terribly impressed........ Junky sights, the front is plastic and the rear is wiggly. The grip is made for a four year old.......and I have pretty small hands. Accuracy is about average but the gun feels like a toy, to me the mosquito feels like a "real" pistol.

I think the Buckmark is a much bigger gun!

Thank you all for your replies. I think I'll go with the Mosquito, as the Walther has a rather small grip, the Buckmark is too big and the Neos...well lets just say that it belongs in Star Wars or Star Trek.

Buy a good used Hi-Standard (My Preference), Smith 41, Ruger, Buckmark etc.

I have owned and fired both the P22 and the Mosquito--both were very finicky as to ammunition--

both are gone

they were light and modern but not reliable.

Dugga,
Those pistols are all excellent but feel nothing like a SIG, HK, Glock and the like, which I'd use for carry. Sure one could argue that the Smith 41 feels like a 1911. Not that the Mosquito or the P22 feel exactly like a carry size pistol but they, especially the Sig feel more similar than the others.

Understood.

(BTW, the later Hi-Std's had the "Military 45" grip and heft)

My Mosquito had the threaded barrel,
nice feature--just could not get it to be reliable.

Love my Gen. I HK USP-C (45)
wish HK wold do a 22 on the chasis.

Bought a Mosquito for the same reasons;

After reading through and making my own evaluations I bought it despite all the "issues" some have about ammo.

I only shoot CCI Mini mag HP's and 5000 rounds later I have not had a hangfire,FTF, or misfire yet;NONE,ZERO.Here if I buy 5 boxes they are $4 each(100 rounds),cheap shootin' in my book.

I will say the only time I thought I had a problem; I was lettting my thumb ride high and unknowingly pressing the slide catch, sometimes not allowing the slide to cycle properly...all my fault and I have adjusted my grip.

I hunt with mine regular and have excellent results with the sites and overall accuracy.

I completely agree. I have a HK P2000 in .40 smith that I love. It is really a shame HK don't build a .22lr based on the USP chassis.

This is a video showing the slide cracking in half on a P-22, (At about the 1:50 minute mark). I didn't know the slide is made of Aluminum! For what they charge for these guns, that is inexcusable. The video is actually titled for a Sig 229, but they shoot a P-22 in it. Bill T.

Well Gents I finally bought the Mosquito. It actually is a gift to my wife that she lets me use sometimes. This ia a real nice little pistol. It came with a light recoil spring installed and has performed flawlessly with the recommended CCI Mini Mags. After we finish off all of the CCI's we'll start experimenting with some other ammo and see how it goes from there.

There are only two 22LR semiautos I would consider.

Money no object S&W Mod 41.

Best gun for the money, Ruger.

NE I have a model 41 and I agree with your assessment, however have you shot a S&W model 22? They are amazingly accurate with a red dot sight. The trigger is not so good however. Also my High Standard Trophy is no slouch either!

The Mosquito has the problem being fickle with some different kinds of ammo. The sig rep that I spoke to about this first claimed they have a match grade chamber...I don't understand why they'd do so with this handgun. The next rep claimed it was the interchangable springs, which required you to kind of play with both and see which works best. The mosquito feels awesome and can be quite accurate and jam-free if the right ammo is used.
The walther p22 is a rather diminutive handgun that I actually do like quite a bit. If it starts to jam, try tightening the barrel nut. Plus, of course, check the ammo. I carry one quite often when I go for my hikes, it's great as a squirrel and rabbit popper.
Neither of these handguns have the voracious appetite like the Ruger pistols, which I do prefer over all. Either that or a small .22 revolver. However those two handguns have a certain fun factor behind them that the others lack. I would love a H&K .22, that would be awesome.
