Friends- I have a Ruger Single Six that I received as a gift. Are there folks out there that specialize in dressing them up in some fashion. I would love some Sambar Stag or Elk Anter Grips; that would be a good touch. Case Coloring the Receiver or Cylinder would be a nice option. Even a Nitre Blue on the Cylinders might look nice. I called Doug Turnbull's company and they half way laughed at me, saying you could just go and buy another Ruger. I am not talking about a "big budget" makeover but, I would like to dress it up because my grandson will end up with it one day. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, May the wind be in your face and the sun at your back. P. Mark Stark

I guess if a couple of thousand dollars isn't a big budget you will be in the ball park.

Send it to Hamilton Bowen. I have two....one was done by Hamilton as follows: Color case hardening by Turnbull; Back strap engraved to my specs Bisley hammer installed Tune and install Bowen sights front and rear; trigger tune; reassembly with Loc-tite to keep screws tight. BCA oversize locking base pin installed forcing cone checked and recut, if necessary. Cylinder to rotate in both directions. New grips: Turkish Walnut grips from Dick Thompson (or you can order stag or sambar to fit as well.) Bingo, you're in very reasonably for the quality you will get. This is my single six in 32 H&R The other one is a .22 but not dolled up as much) "When you play, play hard; when you work, don't play at all." Theodore Roosevelt

What did it cost you for the dressing up.

My cost is not really relevant due to minor details that I wanted done, including some engraving. What you need to do is to get on Bowen's website, bowenclassicarms.com, review his work and then write or e-mail him telling him what you want done and ask for a cost estimate. Thank you and it shoots damn well also. I am a big fan of Bowen. His work is excellent, and he is a real good guy. "When you play, play hard; when you work, don't play at all." Theodore Roosevelt

Get some stag or elk horn grip panels from Eagle Grips. You will want to do some minor fitting to get them just right. Ask Eagle how to do it. Then send the thing out to Turnbulls for a $400 Refinish that includes color case hardening the frame and hammer. Bowen could slick up your trigger pull, but if you are happy with how the gun currently functions, I wouldn't bother with him. However, if you want it to be absolutely perfect, send it to Bowen.
