STI is very popular here for IPSC shooting, these are very accurate, but very picky when it come to ammo, and I seen alot of them brake extractor claws

Yes!!! thumbdown I was reading in a lot of forum about STI 45 ACP (EDGE) jam issue, Not the same for the .40 S&W Cal. models.
Most faliure atributed to the ammo bullet type and others to the magazines, followers and springs quality shocker pissers, maybe I have to buy a ParaOrdenance P-14 and let more money to invest in a macht quality ramped bull barrel, novak special ajustable sights, spare magazines and some esthetic work Wink. Thanks Regards Guille.

High capacity, ease of carry P12-45.

Using a full sized pistol, a .45 with the 8 rnd nice Wilson mags is very sleek, and yes you can cram 2 spares down in a nylon single double stack spare magazine holster (takes time to train the nylon, don't try to train the leather).

You really shouldn't need to worry about weight, so a steel framed .45 it should be. Still don't know why you would want to carry more than 9 rnds of .45ACP in the weapon for hunting... ?

The main use for this gun will be as a back-up gun, besides my Pigbuster Rem 870 Custom shotgun, to look for wounded wildboars or pumas, and as a defensive weapon in case of poacher encounter, we dont live in the middle of Angola, but sometimes is very common to find local poachers in the same hunting places (drunken and ilegal). I will use it like a house and Truck defence weapon too, so it will be my all-purpose gun. Is the only way to get very well trained with the gun, using it all the time and for every situation. I just proved the efectivity of my glock .40 and didnt was enought to stop the boar even with FMJ, I believe in Jeff Cooper´s concepts, and the Big 45 has been tested in many wars and never dissapointed nobody, The 1911 concept is a war veteran, absolutly reliable and with awesome stopping power, maybe 14 shots are too much, but I prefeer that, than carry another magazine or have to reload after 7 shots. I dont like the p-12 sight radius and the alloy frame, I lost a friend hunter: a Veterinary, Dr, teacher and Black belt Karate teacher during a gunfight in the woods with poachers, Him & one of them died and the others are in jail. I reload my own ammo and Im a little concern about blow-up a Glock 21 or my G-27 and USP expert .45 (All Polymer Frames) by a reloading error or case failure (reloaded many times) etc.. because as You know, most of the polymer pistols (except Steyr M9) has not supported barrel, and when a case blow-up, the gases destroy all the frame, and injure the shooter´s hands. (In the STI the barrels are ramped (case thin part is supported by the chamber) and the plastic frame is reemplazable but not in other polymer pistols.
The other polymer frames are Impossible to buy here, as a spare, in my country are sold like guns due the unique serial number, an argentinian RENAR = BATF rule. Regards. Guille.

Most STI problem guns have problem owners.

Tweaking mags to get gain 2 or 3 rounds.
Homeboy trigger jobs.
Powder Puff loads.

Guillermo,

Take a look at what Kase Reeder has to offer. I have a custom 10mm auto Kase built...much better than the puff 40 S&W. A decent 200gr bullet @ 1200fps+ will drop any hog or human there is. Kase makes fantastic custom 1911's at much better pricing than most of the other custom gun builders. Go to reedercustomguns.com and see for yourself.

I have shot the STI in 45ACP and I believe the main reason for jams is not using proper shooting technique. This pistol will not tolerate a loose/limp grip but if you use a stiff arm grip when shooting it should prove reliable. If this is to be a defense weapon I'd advise you to put in plenty of practise before trusting your life to it. On the other hand, the STI's are very well made and are extremely accurate in the right hands.

Do you need the high capacity?

If not ... go Baer for a single stack.

If so ... Paras take a lot of money to make into really nice pistols. Internal parts are junk. STI is better.

Given that your life may depend on it, have a good smith go through ANY 1911-based pistol for reliability!

I have built guns on Para and STI frames. I use Baer slides, Nowlin barrels, Briley spherical bushings, McCormick triggers, and hammer/sear sets from McCormick or Cylinder&Slide. Titanium internals are NOT necessary!
