I just received two boxes of Cast Performance hard cast gas checked bullets for my Heym 470. The size is 475 / 425 gr. I’m looking for a few reduced to full loads using (if possible) RL15, 4831 and 5744 powders. I have read thru all of the old postings (two hours worth) with out finding any consistency in the loads.
Thanx, John

The problem is the 425 gr weight. With 500s sized at .476" my Searcy seems to be regulated for 42-45 gr of AA5744. This is a reduced load.

I would not recommend running full loads with cast bullets. You might get away with a slightly reduced load using RL-15 and dacron filler.

Again with 500 gr bullets my rifle seems to be OK with 85 gr of RL-15 at abt 2000 fps.

I have had similar experience as Mike and recomend his load of 45g 5744. I also used this load with 400 Grain Speer Jacketed Pistol bullets and had no problems. I prefer the Pistol bullets over lead due to the reduced fowling and ease of reloading. Don't ask me how accurate they were because I never paid much attention. I will say that they make good practice loads and I was able to hit what I aimed at out to normal double rifle distances. (under 2000 yards).

I have used the cast performance bullets in my Merkel with no problem at all,no fouling, excellent accuracy,& they were hell on pigs,I shot full house loads, these bullets are gas checked, they will shoot fine without any problems,as a rule,I do not shoot cast & copper without cleaning the barrels in between.

RAC,

Keep in mind I have iron sights on my 470's so my shooting distance is limited.
