Cleaning a 500 NE

I just stepped up to a K-gun in 500 NE. I realized that all my cleaning equipment went up to .45 cal. I checked Midway, Graf and Sons and all the other likely suspects and could find bits and pieces of equipment. I am not a novice when it comes to rifle cleaning however, the double is new to me and any advise would be greatly appreciated.

32 gauge shotgun brush is closest but I use a 28 gauge brush when need be. It's a bit tight but works fine.

Alternatively, Trader Keith has proper brushes and jags.

Pull the .50/.54 caliber BoreSnake (Hoppes Model 24020) thru the rifle twice a year and you are good to go. Then put a little grease on the hinge pin. I think cleaning doubles is generally overrated and overdone.

Mike, you may be right....at some point "cleaning" turns into "fondling" :-)

If you need brushes, check out the stuff they have for muzzle loaders. Lots of 50 caliber brush choices. I have a Thompson/Center Arms 50 caliber brush and when I look for patches, I just look in the muzzle loading section of the store or catalog. There is a lot of 50 cal stuff there.

Incidentally Joe, I just picked up a K-gun in 500 NE as well. Love the gun.

.50 BMG stuff will work; they have a groove diameter of .510. There is no standard spec for muzzle loader barrels.

I use muzzleloader stuff for my .505 but anything for the .50 BMG would be perfect too.

I bought some supplies from Kynamco. All is good quality but the threads don't match our rods. I bought .500, .577, .600 tips, jags, etc., and they are still as new!
