Stopped at the new Cabelas in Everett, Wash., on my way hom from a flyfishing trip to Campbell River, B.C., and had to peek at the Sabattis. I handled a .45-70 and a .470 and the muzzle crowns were very crisp, with no hint of Dremel butchery. So maybe this sordid chapter is actually receding into the past ... It's about time! Here's hoping they shoot better as well! I'll still wait a bit till some new ones are in the field! I may buy one yet! ............................................................................. ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

Or maybe they just gave up on regulating them :-)

Did you check the serial numbers and / or ask if they were "new" stock ? Previously 500N with many thousands of posts !

505: I did not. In my experience, the gun library guys are either pretty clueless or trained to play dumb, or dumb. If you have serial number range information, I am certain a number of us would be interested. There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

I don't, but considering how "new" the DR's are, it wouldn't take much to work out because we have people on here who have some of the first and the most recent. Maybe we could ask AR members who own Sabatti DR's to post up - the serial number, - calibre and - when it was purchased - whether it has dremmell marks in the barrel What do you think ? . I had one in .450 to test for Petersen's Hunting and the crowns were perfect. The gun shot well. My only real complaint was the recoil pad, that thing was designed by a sadist.

Bill/Oregon, Do you remember the Cabelas price on those two double rifles? NRA Life Benefactor Member, DRSS, DWWC, Whittington Center,Android Reloading Ballistics App at http://www.xplat.net/

CR: $5,499.00 on the .470, an ejector model, and $2,999 on the .45-70. These are the standard Cabelas prices, with the extractor big bores at $4,999. There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

Thanks, Bill, At that price, I could afford to get one in 45-70 just as a fun project gun. I have had fun and good performance with my Winchester 1886 .45-90 and would like to see how it could perform in the Sabatti. If it came close to the 1886 performance (2150 fps with a 450 grain Kodiak bullet) it could make for a fun and effective .458 double. Have you heard of anyone having done this with a .45-70 Sabatti? crshelton, My wife surprised me by buying me one in 45-70 for my birthday nearly 2 years ago. Since then I've shot a mouflon sheep, a deer, and a couple of rock chucks with it. Mine has a touched up muzzle but still shoots pretty good. I'm not taking it to Africa for DG so as long as it penetrates to 'depth-of-deer', I'm doing good.

"Will" here on AR that sells all of the elephant hide wallets etc converted his Sabatti 45-70 to 450NE with good result. You might pm him for more info. Good Luck. Converted a 45-70 to 450 NE??? That would kick like a mule, no doubt. A standard 45-70 loaded to 30 K PSI will do everything you want it to and is all the recoil I care to stand.

Bill/Oregon You are right about wives that give doubles to husbands. Mine gave me a Parker Repro Steel Shot Special for our anniversary several years ago. So, I gave her a Parker repro 20 ga so she could shoot with me and not be embarrased by her old pump gun. My wife gave me a DR right before she ran off with my best friend and hunting buddy, George. (That was a Perugini 9.3mm, so she had good taste in rifles, if not men.) I sure do miss George.
