I've had a great time hunting quail with the 28 gauge barrels, but yesterday evening, the .30/30 barrels did the little Chapuis proud
. This guy is truly huge.

Very nice boar!

Interesting rifle, I don't think I have seen a double in 30/30 before. Nice!

Most accurate was a Merkel 141(e) in 9.3x74. Right barrel would always hit a one inch dot a 100 yards with the left barrel hitting an inch above for a combined group of 1" at best to 2" at worse. I killed a buffalo with it and a truck load of plains game out to 200 yards. It loved 250 grain Barnes X-bullets.

My Searcy Classic .500 N.E. is a two inch gun with iron sights at 50 yards. It may be better but that's all I can do. It shoots all commercial ammo wonderfully.

The Chapuis is almost as accurate as the Merkel, btw.

I've got two more doubles that are serviceable, but not quite so accurate.

T'was.

Check out www.sablehouse.com . The site is under construction, but you'll get the idea. It's only 90 acres, but just right for Sandy and me.

What a wonderful combination! I knew they did small bores and 20ga but I think a .30-30/28ga set has got to be a real peach. Do you know the weights and metrics?

Sable House - are you going to get some watch gators? Big Grin

I was about to ask about you, but didn't want the ISS thing to come up. Where is Ernie on the kill?

Damn fine gun and glad to have you back, Judge.
