Is it the same as a Webley Long bar action? "When the wind stops....start rowing. When the wind starts, get the sail up quick."

Webley long bar actions could be either Screw Grip or PHV 1. Both had third bites, just different shapes and slightly different ways of working. So Yes and No.

I had "Googled" images and came up with two different pictures. One showed an arrowhead shaped cut out going into the top of the breech and a second picture showed a "U" shaped cut out. Here is an excellent set of photographs of a Webley Screw Grip. http://rbsiii.com/collection/r...bs_450/gibbs_450.htm I'll keep looking for a PHV 1. Edit Here is a PHV 1 Action (although the step down on the side of the action is unusual IMHO). http://rbsiii.com/collection/r.../C_Lancaster_280.htm Notes 1. See the Different shape of the Dolls Heads on each of the actions 2. The Screw Grip INTERSECTS with the top lever spindle, the PHV 1 doesn't. 3. I always say the Screw grip looks like a Spade and the PHV 1 like a club (from a pack of cards). 4. Some other actions out there LOOK like these two but aren't when you look closely. Others on here are far more knowledgeable than me and hopefully will chime in with some good info. Finally, remember, for every rule in the British gun trade, their is an exception !!! .

Here is a Webley Long bar action Screw Grip - where the Lump on the bottom of the barrels does NOT come through the bottom of the action. http://www.champlinarms.com/De...StyleID=3&GunID=1997 Most of the Webley's I have seen, the lump does come through. Probably because this is a higher end gun. And another - this is very typical looking http://www.champlinarms.com/De...StyleID=3&GunID=1866

Thanks Nigel. I am a bit confused by Rosco's site where the 280 is described as a PHV1 long bar screw grip! I am still learning...... "When the wind stops....start rowing. When the wind starts, get the sail up quick."

I'll have a look. I hope it is not wrong. Champlins web site is always good as he takes photos from all angles. .
