Got a question- does anyone here know how to decipher the codes on the back of old Kynoch ammo boxes? I have 390 rounds of Kynoch 9mm Mauser ammo, and the codes on the boxes are - 14 S Y and 16 R Y also, I have a old box of 577/450 Kynoch ammo, it is in a green and red box (not the yellow and red box). Its code is 7 M D Thanks! *We Band of 45-70er's* "Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat." -Theodore Roosevelt-

This was discussed a few months ago, if you can find it by searching. ------------------------------- Will Stewart / Once you've been amongst them, there is no such thing as too much gun. --------------------------------------- and, God Bless John Wayne. Gene, I have a book with the dates of manufacture for various Kynoch box codes. I can look yours up if you need me to. Walt

Walt- I think I figured it out, my 9mm Mauser were loaded in 1950, and the 577/450's were either in 1929 or 1956. When you get time, can you see if I'm right? Thanks! Gene PS- you have a PM too! *We Band of 45-70er's* "Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat." -Theodore Roosevelt-

byf42 Your 577/450s are almost certainly loaded 7th June 1929 as the box colour is for black powder whereas anything loaded in 1955 as the letter D can indicate would have been nitro in the red and yellow box. (sorry byf42 I just corrected the date above to 1929 not 1926 as I first posted) PM me and I'll email you a better version of the dating chart I posted in the earlier thread you have found.
