Wow. Very informative. A pity they did not explain the blackening process of the metal parts. "When the wind stops....start rowing. When the wind starts, get the sail up quick."

This film is a fine example of what is involved in the building of a quality double rifle, or shotgun! As they say in the film “THIS IN A PURDEY”, but even the plainest field grade is skilled labor intensive, and that makes them expensive. The prices are justified in any event, from field grade to bespoke! That is a fine film and the only thing I wish it had included was the regulating of the barrels process! Films like this one are very informative and explain a lot more that just words. ………………………………………….Well done! ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

I will be in London for 8 nights from the 29th of September.I am really looking forward to that.I doubt I will visit any of the gunshops.I might pass by however.I am really looking forward to having English beers(not too many)in a pub with a meal after a long day of sightseeing.

I think you should stop into a few of them, and teach them how to clean the copper out of their bbls while they are regulating their DR's! Be sure and tell them you are from Canada though, ok? DM

I don`t think any of the fellows working in the shops would be interested in spending time with someone who is not in the market for buying one of the guns.I will get there address however and might stop and take a peek from outside.I might take a picture too.I would like to visit St-Paul`s cathedral-where Diana and Charles married.

In 1998 I visited Purdey & H&H. I also visited the H&H gun rooms in NY in 2007. On all 3 occasions I told them that I was not buying any guns and that I was just visiting because I was an enthusiast and that I loved the history & the reputation. I told them that it was a life long dream (40 years +) to visit. I was treated with great courtesy and allowed to handle a lot of guns. I had some good conversations with the people in the gun rooms. I was told that they get many visitors like me all the time. I bought 2 books at H&H London. I got a pair of snap caps at Purdeys - So do own a pair of Purdeys! At the H&H gun rooms in NY, the manager allowed me to handle the guns and also photograph a particular rifle (Mannlicher Schaunauer take down model). I bought nothing after spending almost an hour. There was no one else in the gun rooms. "When the wind stops....start rowing. When the wind starts, get the sail up quick."

I checked Holland and Holland`s address and there seems to be a pub located just across the street.I hope I do not pay it a visit because then H&H might see a visit from shootaway.

Now I am not so sure I will get to go.The fellow who is supposed to take my place so I can go on vacation like every other working human being, is acting up and being very difficult. Come to think of it I think I would really enjoy visiting some gunmaker like Ralf Martini or any other who shares the desire to build great hunting rifles.
