A few years back, our local gun shop got a 303 in a double, it was sold for about 3k, being fresh out of college I was unable to purchas it. Now I can, I'm unaware of its make. Who out there makes thees. I have yet to find one that's under 10k. Any sujestions? Double Rifles, This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as bolt rifle. Alaskaman11: .303 doubles can be found by most vintage makers as is was such a popular caliber in the days gone by. You're correct--prices are 10K or better. Perhaps exposed hammer and under lever rifles for a bit less. Cheaper rifles may be had by European makers, most so new production. At DSC, Verney-Caron has a beautiful .303 double. It is 30K but highly embellished. Much less cost for the plain version, I'm sure. Check Walter's shop as a lot of interesting rifles pass through his doors. Thanks Cal, I assume that you are referring the shop across from the Cook. I'll head down there today. As I said, im just starting to get my feet wet within the double world. My god is there a lot to learn! I was also considering a European 9.3x 74. Double Rifles, This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as bolt rifle. The first thing one needs to know is you must be very careful when buying a vintage double rifle of any chambering, but especially one chambered for 303 Britt! The reason for this is most double rifles chambered for 303Britt have had the hell shot out of them, and most have digested a ton of very corrosive military surplus ammo, and not cleaned properly to avoid cordite burn in the bore. Not only that but most were used for shooting everything for fox to red stag, usually requiring firing only one barrel far more than both barrels, resulting one barrel receiving far more wear than the other. It just seems the doubles chambered for this cartridge stood far more abuse than doubles of larger chambering. BUYER BEWARE! Especially a buyer that is new to double rifles! AKman get Cal to look over any vintage double rifle you consider buying before possibly buying a pig in a poke! .............................................................................................. ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

Ken at Kebco has a gorgeous faux sidelock (sideplated) Verney Carron DR, which he had built for himself. Verney Carron can make another one. I imagine you could get one on their less-expensive round body action, or their 9.3-size frame a reasonable price.

That was a very nice rifle. Handled like a .410 shotgun and looked outstanding too. Mike
